As the day is celebrated with winning and dinning in some quarters, it is a moment of sober reflection in order areas. Little importance we will give to the day if we have no or little idea of what the day really means.
The death of Jesus has done a lot in the life of Christians and the world at large. Considering it in the following ways will give us more insight to the purpose of his death therefore we can go about celebrating Him.
The death of Jesus has given mankind a substitute for sin. The man Jesus was born without sin and he lived a sinless life so as for him to be able to present himself as replacement for the sins of the world.
Isaiah 53:6 KJV
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
The death of Jesus is an atonement for our sins. In the old testament, it was sacrifices that they make to cover their sins but when Jesus came, his blood atone for the sins and there is no need to make sacrifice again.
Isaiah 38:17 KJV
Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.
The death is a means of propitiation. If not for Jesus, only God knows what would have become of the nations of the world but by the death of Jesus, he pleads and mediate for the us before God.
1 John 2:1-2 KJV
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: [2] And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
Through the death of Jesus Christ we have reconciliation. We were once an enemy of God through the sin inherited from nature by the first man but by the death of Jesus we became children of God.
Colossians 1:21-22 KJV
And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled [22] In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight.
The death of Jesus brought ransom for redemption. We are all by his sacrificial life received redemption from sin, law, curse and eternal damnation.
Hebrews 9:12 KJV
Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us .
What benefits we have in the Lord Jesus Christ who died and gave his life for me and you.
Jesus Christ died that we might live.
