Psalm 138: 6-8 Reina-Valera 1960
6 For the LORD is exalted, and he tends the humble,
But the haughty looks from afar.
7 If I walk in the midst of anguish, you will revive me;
Against the wrath of my enemies you will stretch out your hand,
And your right hand will save me.
and as the verse says to the proud God looks from afar, the sensation of power can not corrupt us, because God is the one who puts and removes kings.
