Babylon: Daniel's Courage!

in #steemchurch6 years ago (edited)

As I read the story of Daniel, I have never stopped being astonished by his lifestyle.

Who was Daniel?
History has it that:

Daniel was a righteous man of princely lineage and lived about 620–538 B.C. He was carried off to Babylon in 605 B.C. by Nebuchadnezzar, the Assyrian, but was still living when Assyria was overthrown by the Medes and Persians. Daniel was a eunuch, so he had no wife nor children.

Apart from Daniel being a man of God; Daniel was a man who displayed something we need in Government, or politics today and even in life general!

Daniel was a man of Courage:
Daniel was a man of courage; he was a man of courage in its full measure. And, What is courage? Courage is defined thus: it is the quality of a confident character not to be afraid or intimidated easily but without being incautious or inconsiderate. Daniel was really a man of courage and he portrayed true courage in the interpretation of King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream, but could not remember nor interpret the dream.

The Effect of the Dream
The king then threatened to kill all the wise men and astrologers which Daniel and his friends would have fallen victims. But, Daniel was bold enough to go to the king to ask for some time to come with answers or something of such. He eventually did.

In the second year of Nebuchadnezzar's reign, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed such dreams that his spirit was troubled and his sleep left him. So the king commanded that the magicians, the enchanters, the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans be summoned to tell the king his dreams. When they came in and stood before the king, he said to them, "I have had such a dream that my spirit is troubled by the desire to understand it." (NRSV 2:1-3)

The dream was so terrifying!

In Daniel 2:16, the Bible made us to understand that: Daniel went in to the king and asked for time, so that he might interpret the dream for him.

Did you notice how bold Daniel was in stating he would get the interpretation. That takes boldness; that's courage. Or think of it this war: could you go to the President of your country and boldly reassure him you have the solutions to the things that troubles him even before God reveals them to you?

Would you be bold enough to do that?

Daniel's courage is something we need in our churches and organizations today because it is of utmost importance in our lives.

The importance of Courage
Here are some importance of courage:

  • Courage sets you apart from the crowd: it was courage that allowed Daniel to stand out from other wise men of his time.
  • Courage shows your level of trust in God: Because Daniel was courageous, he could go boldly to King Nebuchadnezzar to ask for time, he was quite sure his God would give him the interpretation.
  • Courage would make others give you a listening hear: When Daniel spoke, everyone listened. He was courageous. Courage always seems to attract listeners

On a Final Note, you and I are expected to live a life of courage like Daniel did so we could be used be God as he was. And, never forget this: courage sets you apart from the crowd (unbelievers)!

Daniel was a great servant of God. Loyal and very courageous. I remember his praying to God despite knowing that he will be thrown in a den of lions. One of my brothers always says if it was him, the fight he would have put up with those leading him to the den hahaha..

The prophet Daniel, I never doubt the faithfulness of God.
