Love your Neighbor

In Matthew 22:36-39, a legal advisor challenges Jesus asking him, "Teacher, which is the immense rule in the Law?"

Jesus answers him saying, "You shall love the Lord your God with everything that is in you and with everything that is in you and with all your brain. This is the colossal and first edict. Furthermore, a moment resembles it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself" (ESV).

The principal verse Jesus cites is from Deuteronomy 6:5, however the second is from Leviticus.

For Jesus, to love your neighbor as yourself implied Leviticus 19:9– 18:

"When you procure the collect of your territory, you shall not harvest your field up to its edge, neither shall you assemble the gleanings after your reap. Also, you shall not strip your vineyard uncovered, neither shall you accumulate the fallen grapes of your vineyard. You shall abandon them for poor people and for the sojourner: I am the LORD your God.

You shall not take; you shall not bargain erroneously; you shall not deceive each other. You shall not swear by my name erroneously, thus befoul the name of your God: I am the LORD.

Try not to look for retribution or hold resentment yet broaden forgiveness (Lev. 19:18).

For Jesus, addressing Jews formed by the Torah, this is the thing that adoring your neighbor resembled. In 21st-century America, how does this influence how you love your neighbor?

Would you be able to envision a reality where individuals loved each different along these lines?

Marinate on that.

This teaching of Jesus always turns in my head .. what should I do to help my neighbor? we all have the opportunity to help someone, maybe being nice is an example ..
