Fear is the greatest destroyer of dreams and killer of ambitions
Everyone and anyone can feel afraid and scared, It is a feeling that comes as a result of perceived threat or endangerment. However it is one thing to be afraid and another to live in fear or be controlled by it. A lot of people make decisions that govern their lives out of fear and people generally fear things that they do not understand.
Have you ever thought about getting rid of your alarm machine because it can be very loud and annoying? I'm sure you have a few times. It is programmed that way to perform a specific function which is to wake you up or remind you to do something. You can liken this to the role that fear plays in our lives.
Fear is a necessity in every human, it's what triggers your instinct for survival. Still, as with anything, there is a point of caution as regards fear and that is in the area of control. If you let the fear of a thing get the better of you, you'll soon find that at every given point in time, you'll be living in constant fear of that thing. Sometimes only the mention of it's name or the thought of it can send your heart racing for miles...that's no way to live.
But if I were to ask, "what are you really scared of?" Is it the loss of love or a loved one, your job, ridicule or embarassment? When faced with a situation that threatens some part of your life or even your very existence, what is your attitude towards it? Do you run away or do you confront it. For it is only when you confront your fears that you can truly overcome them!
The other side to this of course is when you "run scared" or you put off confronting your fears. It gets you stuck in one place, If you had to move forward for example but in order to do that, you had to come face to face with a threat or you had to take a risk and you refuse to, that inevitably means that you would have to remain where you are, never moving forward.
A lot of people reject opportunity when it is presented before them because they are afraid to take risks. The fear of losing something has a crippling effect on them and they become paralyzed.
Any action is better than no action
This quote best applies to people who are scared of failure. Fear, I might say is the greatest destroyer of dreams and killer of ambition, but God is the slayer of fear and the giver of dreams.
Let's look at what the bible says about fear;
Isaiah 41:10:
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of righteousness
2 Tim 1:7:
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Rom 8:15:
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
These passages among many are proof that God did not intend for us to live in fear. Jesus in Mark 5:36 said to the ruler of the synagogue; "do not fear, only believe."
Living in fear only indicates the nonexistence of faith and trust in God. Brethren of the steemchurch, I ask you; If God be for us, who can be against us?
In overcoming your fears, the first step to take would be to acknowledge God as your source of strength and refuge. If you can do that, then you have certainly taken a giant leap towards becoming fearless.
Mind you, being fearless is not the absence of fear, rather it is the mastery of it. In a fear of failure situation, the more comfortable you are with the possibility of failure, the more fearless you become.
Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.In mastery of fear, the Law of Reversibility which says that "If you feel a certain way, you will act in a manner that is particular to that feeling" is of great importance and arguably one of the biggest breakthroughs in psychology. It simply means that you can develop enough courage by doing the thing that you fear until the fear disappears and it has been proven scientifically that it will!- Mark Twain
Confronting your fears is another step towards overcoming them. Once the fear is identified and confronted, it grows smaller each time, boosting your confidence and diminishing the fear's control over you.
When you discipline yourself to face your fears or any fearful situation surrounding your life, you build your confidence, self-esteem, and boost your self-respect. You cease to be limited or hindered by your thinking and you find that you're now able to push forward and "cease the day," make the most of opportunities. Eventually you will find that you cannot be afraid of anything.
