First Love – Revelation 2:4

Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love.

Just the sound of the words “You have forsaken your first love” can place images of people who have completely left the way. But let’s listen to some of the characteristics of the people in Ephesus who heard “You have forsaken your first love.”

Revelation 2:2 - "I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked men, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. 3 You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary."

I don’t know about you but these sound like some good solid believers to me. They obviously were committed to good deeds and were persevering through hardships. They avoided wicked men and false apostles. Plus, they were still going strong in those elements without growing weary. Yet, these were the ones who left their first love. Where was their love for YHWH and others in their walk. How did they treat others? Better yet, how do you?

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, shalom!

In the last days sin will increase as the love of many will grow cold.

Pls consider helping with the following project

Because the media in USA, AUS, EU, BR, CAN has been scripted and no longer investigates and reports scientific objective observation,
Because extreme weather and space events are happening dynamically,
Let us establish a website to report on weather news etc from every locality.
Where I am now in USA I have observed extreme and increasing weather events resulting in flooding across three states. I have also see spacecraft through skycams in other areas.
It would be good to know what is really going on around the world. Organize. Cooperate. Do good. Self govern. Erase poverty. Free energy. Abundance. Stop the murder.

Yes, we can see that in the days we are living in!

Would you say this is talking about those who have come to know our Savior first, and later, The Way? Those maybe that tend to put the Torah before their relationship with Yah and others? I know I’ve gone through times like that. My relationship with the Father fell by the wayside and I told myself I was doing ok because I was being obedient. Of course, He never fails to show me I have my priorities mixed up, so I don’t stay down that road too long.

This devotion peaked my interest since it’s been some time since I’ve read Revelation. I went back and read about the other 6 churches. If I’m reading it correctly, it seems members of all but 1 church are determined by their actions/beliefs. Interestingly, the members of Smyrna seem to be there by circumstance only. (Who are the people that belong in this church I wonder.) The other churches (excluding Philadelphia) are offered hope if they repent.

@hebrewhousewife , I never thought of it that way before and from the scriptures themselves it is hard to say, but it does make sense. I have heard of those that came to know Jesus first then found Torah and for the most part threw out Jesus...which is really sad. As Steve pointed out we all must remember that HE comes first and then we are to love our neighbors and treat them the way we would want to be treated.

There is sooooo many thoughts and ideas around those churches that for me at this point I think I need to make sure I am right with God and do what He expects me to do and then in the end I just hope that He says well done good and faithful servant! One this is for sure for each church it does say "I know your works" so that should tell us that yes we need to have faith but our works is also very important!

Thanks for the comment...Shalom to you and your family!

Howdy sir simms50! This is a great word to keep our priorities straight as obviously it can be distracted!

Oh there are plenty of distractions out there!!!
Thanks for all of your comments Brother!

Howdy today sir simms50! you are very welcome and I need to make it a daly habit to stop in and get some good word, actually it helps keep the heart focused on the things of God so every Believer on here should be doing the same. I keep
getting distracted and I'm all over the place and forget!
