Sanctify them in the truth: thy word is truth. As thou didst send me into the world, even so sent I them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth.
John 17: 17-19
Jesus asks God to sanctify us in the truth. What we want is to see ourselves grow in faith, to see ourselves as adult Christians capable of making wise decisions and in line with the Word of God. Concretely it means that the believer must commit to avoid evil, to find no more pleasure in sin, because otherwise it would be like mocking God.
It is, as often, finding a healthy balance. God preserves us, but not in an "automatic" way. In His Word, He exhorts us to pay attention to the various dangers, encourages us to persevere in following the example of Jesus and warns us when we are going to turn away from Him.
Jesus took the first step, sanctified us: he died on the cross for us as a redeemer. He preceded us with his example and now gives us the strength to follow him. If Jesus is certain that we can live as he would like in this world, it is because he has given us the Holy Spirit that now lives in the believer. Without Jesus we can not do anything.
But this does not exclude that we can, in fact we must do works of sanctification. Jesus says: "As you sent me to the world, I sent them into the world." We are called to live in the world and love those who are not saved, to positively influence our culture whenever we have the opportunity.
We have to "get our hands dirty" in the world. Sometimes it can be uncomfortable; We could even be hated by this. But Jesus did the same thing before us and we have the Holy Spirit to help us Jesus said:
And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are in health have no need of a physician; but they that are sick.
Luke 5:31
Jesus came to this world with a clear purpose: to witness the truth and seek and save the lost. Jesus was in the world, not isolated from the people of the world. He knew that while some would receive it, many others would not receive it. So, the way to be "in this world, but not in this world" is to stay focused on the mission.
But do not expect to receive you and your message with open arms!
We have seen that if we trust in Christ, we can be certain that He will preserve us and guide us on our journey. And it is necessary not to allow the morals, values, attitudes and immoral behavior of the world to infiltrate our lives. Once we understand this, we can go full of joy in the world to positively influence our culture whenever we have the opportunity.
we must always have our eyes set on Jesus the author and the consummate of the faith, it is the only way to live quietly and calmly and to go every day bearing fruit.
I believe in truth also. I used to be an avid Christian. Now I have found truth. People have been misled and confused with lies. There is only one God who is too powerful to become a man. Truth is Judaism. God is One. God is time. God is Love.
