Get up in spite of diversity, God is with you wherever you are.

It is a joy to be together again with you kind listener, to share our Bible study today. We are dealing with the issues of life's troubles. We have called them valleys. We have already spoken of the valley of doubt, of the valley of depression, of the valley of calamity and we are in the process of dealing with the theme of the valley of death. To emerge victorious from the valley of death it is necessary to recognize death as it is presented in the Bible. Death is essentially a consequence of sin in man and therefore is not natural to man. For that reason, we have already seen that death is like a snare that catches its victims by surprise. It is also like a ligature that causes pain and affliction to those who are squeezed into it. In this opportunity we will talk about death as a shadow. Death's shadow.

A part of the beautiful and popular Psalm 23 says verbatim: Although I walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, because you will be with me. In this biblical portion, death is compared to a shadow. The shadow is a metaphor of the kind listener death. From this we can learn some things about death. In the first place the shadow appears but it is as if it were not real. Let me explain it. You see the shadow, it is there, but it is the same as if it were not there. It does not occupy a place in space. The shadow can enter the water and it does not drown, it can not be burned, it can be trampled and beaten and it can not be disturbed. It's as if it never existed. Well, death is the same. Death is present, but it is not real. It's like the shadow. Second, the shadow follows us wherever we are on a sunny day. The same is with death, it follows us wherever we are in the light of life. If there were no life there would be no death. Third, the shadow is harmless. This is a lesson that children learn very quickly at some stage of their growth. When they are very tender they are afraid of the shadow. But when they grow up they learn that the shadow is harmless. That's the way it is with death. It is present, but it is harmless. If we try to emerge victorious from the valley of the shadow of death we must look at death as a shadow. This is how death is seen in the Bible. Allow me to quote some texts where this becomes evident. Isaiah 9: 2 says: The people who walked in darkness saw great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, light shone on them.

This refers to the effect of Jesus' presence in the world. Without Jesus Christ, the world was mired in the shadow of death, but when Jesus Christ came, the light shone and the shadow dissipated. Jeremiah 13:16 says: Give glory to Jehovah your God, before he causes darkness to come, and before your feet stumble on mountains of darkness, and you look for light, and turn you into the shadow of death and darkness.
Once again, this text speaks to us of the shadow of death. In the Psalms, death is also spoken of as a shadow. Psalm 44:19 says: So that you may break us in the place of jackals,
And cover us with the shadow of death.
Job was someone who had death in his family and very close to himself. A person with authority to talk about death. Look at what a part of your book says. Job 3: 5 Make it darkness and shadow of death;
Rest on it cloudy That makes it horrible as a caliginous day.

It is clear then that the Bible shows us death as a shadow. Something that is present, but it is as if it were not there. Something harmless. Something that should not be feared. This is how David considered it when writing Psalm 23 he said those masterly words: Though I walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you will be with me. Death is a shadow There is no reason to fear. The august presence of our heavenly Father dispels the fear that the shadow of death produces. Only this way it is explained that for example Susana Wesley, the mother of Juan and of Carlos, said before dying: Children, when I leave, sing a hymn of praise to the Lord, or that Lady Glenorchy said: If this is to die, it is the most pleasant thing imaginable. Or that John Pawson said: I know I'm dying, but my deathbed is a rosebush. The sky has already begun for me. Death is but a shadow my friend, my friend. It is real but it is harmless. But perhaps, kind listener, you have considered death as the most dangerous adversary. If that is your concept of death, you probably do not have Christ as your Savior. Because if this is your case, then there yes, death is the worst that could happen to you, because death in this case means the end of your opportunity to receive Christ as your Savior and you will leave this world direct to your eternal condemnation.

When the atheist philosopher Voltaire was on his deathbed, addressing his family doctor, he said: I feel abandoned by God and man. I will give half my fortune if you grant me six more months of life. The doctor replied: Sir, you will not live for six weeks. Voltaire replied: Then I will go to hell, and you will go with me. A short time later it expired. This is the reality for those who do not know Christ as a kind listening listener. But for those of us who know Christ as Savior, death is only a shadow.

When you become aware of this, it is imperative that you receive Christ as your personal Savior. To do this, just talk to God as you speak to your best friend and in the sweet quiet of conversation with him, receive the gift he has given you in Christ. Only then can you consider death as you considered characters such as Job, David, Isaiah. That is to say, he will consider death as a harmless shadow.
