SBI Shares for #3's winners will be available on October 15th, sorry for any inconvenience. This last week's #steemcomic was particularly difficult to choose a winner. All entries were top-notch and gave me the most laughs yet.

The Creative Crypto is all about art on the blockchain and learning from creatives like you. Looking forward to crossing paths again soon. Steem on!Hello @justinparke, thank you for sharing this creative work! We just stopped by to say that you've been upvoted by the @creativecrypto magazine.
@justinparke, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I do believe we will run into problems because of the comics copyrights unless you have found these strips in the public domain.
I think this contest is very fun and a wonderful idea. I just think that you'll have to find strips that can be used without worrying about legal repercussions. However, if you have found or do have the pages where you grabbed these strips and they are within the public domain, please, post them below the strip so that this concern is address and all is good.
If this doesn't happen, I, though it will hurt, will not be participating in this contest because of the legal ramifications that could/might follow.
ย ย ย ย ย Thanks @tristancarax. I cite the original author in all of my #steemcomics. I make it clear the participants' text are not those of the original author. If I receive any cease and desist orders from any companies/authors of the comics used in #steemcomic, I will be glad to halt the contests.Thank you again for your concern.
I do believe that the same laws that apply to pictures apply here, too, unfortunately. Providing the author's name doesn't count because it is still under Copywrite law and they would have to give you permission to be making money off of it, even those of us who partake in the contest don't reserve the rights to make money off of it.
Here is an option I found. http://www.seosmarty.com/15-cartoonists-that-allow-using-their-web-comics-for-free/ <--- Most fall under the creative commons licensing.
ย ย ย ย ย Thanks again. Like I said, I will cease and desist if any millionaires are concerned with me making a handful of dollars while using their content within my post. There are thousands and thousands of pictures and videos on Steemit not uploaded by the original author and not belonging to the uploader, for which we all make money. If we were only allowed to make money off of posts which contain only photos/videos we produce ourselves, then half off the content on Steemit would be demonetized.
ย ย ย ย ย Example, there are tons of reggae music video reviews on ReggaeSteem.io, all uploaded by bloggers and reviewed by bloggers who make money off of the post. They are technically making money off of content which is not creative commons when they make money from the review. This is why the important thing is to cite all original sources. Also, the video is in itself a backlink to the original artist, which actually supports them. I not only cited the original author "Jim Davis," but have provided a backlink to Garfield.com within this post. If you click on If I am a target of legal action like this, I assume thousands upon thousands of other Steemians would also be targets too. Here is a link to a trending post which has nearly reached $200.The thumbnail contains two images the author most certainly didn't take himself, and is also not cited. Thanks again for you concerns @tristancarax. Please do send any further concerns via memo or on Discord, as I want this post focused on #steemcomic entries.
You can get by, by picking Newspaper comic strips over 32 years old.
That is the copyright limitation rule.
Also there are specific authors that have released their work for public use:
So you can easily use old:
Doonsebury
Beetle Baily
Lil Orphan Annie
Mutt and Jeff
Andy Cap
Blondie
Spiderman (from Newsday in 1970s)
Prince Valient
Heckle and Jekyl
Archie
Casper
here's a great resourse to find stuff that is now available for use (just look for strips before 1987 in NEWSPAPERS not comic books)
Remember you must remove the text. And it becomes a legally a derived work...
I know because I have dealt with lawyers pertaining to this field.
Now, this is knowledge that makes me feel more comfortable entering this contest, which is a really cool one. Thanks for commenting and helping me understand what is legally useable and what is not.
Thanks for the info @richatvns. I know so far I think all the comics Iโve used are scans from the mid 80โs, so that would fall in line.

glad I could help out...
When I run memeday, I'm careful of where and how I pull my base pictures.
Alot of old promotional material is gret sources...
Especially for production companies that went out of business, or personal photos that were distributed without copyrighting.
I always edit it also to make it a derived work, on top ofit.
This information makes me feel comfortable about continuing to join this contest.
