IMHO, steemfest is an awesome idea and project, congrats to all the team behind for their work!
But, to be honest, it's not for everyone, Amsterdam is so expensive!
As an unemployed people I can't afford it at all, be realistic guys...and I'm pretty sure not to be the only one...!
I found some carsharing from Marseille to Amsterdam but it still approx. 150€ and it's more than 15 fucking hours by car...!! (So, 300€ come and back...)
- OUUUPPSS , my fault : I've just found a flight for approx. 250-300€ so, same price but not so long...
And for accommodations...lol, are you kidding me for the price of a room in Amsterdam???
In total if I want to come just for a week, it will cost me at least 500-700€..., half a salary...(if you work..) !!!
And I didn't speak about food and drinks...
If you have better tips...I am here to hear because for now steemfest is definitely not for me, next time! Enjoy 😜

Try https://www.couchsurfing.com - You might be able to stay for free. Also, lots of hostels offer good deals in Amsterdam as cheap as €20 a night. (hotels.com and booking.com are good) Look for flights for neighbouring cities as well, I'm sure you can find something for less than €200 roundtrip.
