Before we can even talk about changing the world, let’s highlight the good things that are happening in 2017. Thanks to the Internet, people can finally communicate with friends and family across the world at any time of the day. Now with Wi-Fi, we no longer have to be at our computers to talk to our loved ones - we can text, call or Skype with them from anywhere with an Internet connection. Moreover, we don't have to rely on the nightly news to find out what's going on in the world. We can simply pull up Google on our computers, tablets and phones and choose from a variety of news sources. Heck, if the news ever gets censored or shut down by our democratically elected dictators, we can simply turn to social media and stay informed with blogs and articles from around the world. The Internet and social media have successfully increased access to information in ways that were simply unimaginable over 20 years ago!
And now for the bad stuff. Only about 40 percent of the world currently has access to the Internet while the rest of the world struggles to gain consistent access to electricity and running water. While anyone with an Internet connection has access to social media, there are numerous folks on sites like YouTube that are always pushing the limits of free speech by promoting abuse against certain racial and religious groups. And don't let me get started with our leaders - tyrants who divert huge funds away from healthcare, science and education into building bombs to kill more people around the world, while simultaneously preaching democracy and peace for all.
But do you know what is the biggest problem in the world today? We don't even have access to our own medical information! Sure whenever we get sick or need a quick checkup, we can choose whichever doctor we want according to our schedule. We even have the right to choose our own treatment regimen, for example opting to take pills instead of surgery. But at the end of the day, we have no idea whatsoever what gets written and recorded in our chart! Our nurses and doctors will rarely if ever tell us the truth about what's really going on in our bodies. They'll simply order a litany of tests so that the hospital can charge the insurance companies a boatload of money and select the newest and most expensive medications designed to earn the maximum profit for pharmaceutical companies.
Patients are continuously marginalized and left to the whim of greedy administrators who treat healthcare like any another business. Essentially, patients do not have access to their medical records.
Believe it or not, patients aren't the only group suffering from our inept healthcare system. How about every doctor who aims to eradicate disease and cure their patients but is instead taught to manage and focus on stabilizing a patient's vitals long enough to discharge them and fill up the next bed? Not to mention, our doctors are assigned floors of patients to deal with each day and barely have even 15 minutes to spend with each patient. Quite simply, physicians don't have enough TIME and all the stress in the world.
If we're going to mention how doctors are burdened and overwhelmed by the current system, how about a shout-out for the absolute hell that our nurses have to go through! Unlike doctors, nurses have to stay overnight for multiple nights each week and constantly have to deal with a dearth of resources at hospitals, clinics and rehab centers as well as record systems that remain disorganized, siloed and difficult to comprehend and use. Hence, nurses are not rewarded properly for the extraordinary amount of time they spend with their patients.
Although I am just one person and can't provide everyone in the world with Internet and electricity as well as rid the world of bigots and corrupt politicians, I can definitely do something about reforming healthcare around the world with blockchain technology.
But before I can officially reveal my vision to revolutionize healthcare and change the world, allow me to introduce myself to those of you wondering who the hell is this guy...
Ace or more specifically @cerebralace is my moniker on Steemit but my real name is Asad Mahmood. I was born in Washington DC, completed all my studies there and currently still work and live in the city. I'm a Biomedical Engineer, computer programmer and a doctor. Shortly after completing medical school, I decided to return to my roots as an engineer and devote my efforts to improving and creating new medical technology. Last year, I joined IBM Federal Healthcare where I currently build cloud based analytics and machine learning applications for Federal Healthcare agencies such as NIH, FDA, CDC, DHA and VA. In a year's time at IBM, I have already used open source technology as well as IBM's analytics portfolio to create an exploratory model of the Zika epidemic, a machine learning app for clinical medicine that provides real-time diagnoses for new patients and a cognitive web app that creates a patient's behavioral health profile by determining their psychiatric diagnosis, suicide risk score and a real-time snapshot of their social media history.
These projects have been preparing me to develop a novel application with an even bigger and longer-lasting impact on healthcare. Moreover, as a disciple of Leonardo da Vinci and Thomas Edison, it has always been my dream to create an invention that truly improves lives around the world and positively impacts the course of human history. Armed with an engineer's thirst to find solutions to real-world problems, a computer programmer's brute force determination and a doctor's mission to cure disease and above all do no harm, this Ace intends to change the world with one game-changing blockchain solution.
The key to changing the world is directly tied to improving healthcare. Health is arguably the most important factor in a person's life - above love, money, knowledge and religion. If you don't have health, you can't have anything in life!
Hence my vision to change the world is by reforming healthcare with the blockchain. How will I reform healthcare with blockchain? Two words - Decentralized EHR.
I will build a Decentralized Electronic Health Record system (EHR) on the Graphene blockchain that will ensure 100% open access for patients to their entire medical history at anytime from anywhere in the world. As the sole owner of their medical record, a patient can allow their physician to monitor their information over the blockchain in real time as well as provide status updates and reports on new symptoms to their physicians at any time of the day.
If that isn't revolutionary enough, this Decentralized EHR will use Machine Learning to calculate predicted diagnoses for each patient in order for a physician to better focus their examination and order the most appropriate diagnostic tests if needed. This will consequently save physicians a significant amount of time by providing a complete medical history for each of their patients, including labs, imaging and computed diagnoses that will be available at any time of the day thanks to the blockchain.
The Decentralized EHR will also be an incentivized system that will allow patients to upvote as well as downvote physicians depending on the quality of care. Each upvote will reward a physician with tokens as well as increase a physician's rank within the system; a downvote on the other hand will not award any additional tokens and will decrease a physician's rank. Physicians can also reward cooperative patients who are also compliant with their medications with upvotes that will reward each patient with tokens they can use to increase their voting power and earnings; a physician cannot however downvote a patient.
This performance-based incentivized system will not only ensure that physicians continue to provide the highest quality of care to their patients but will also financially reward patients who continue to see their doctor regularly in addition to giving them direct voting power on this platform.
The overall goal of my Decentralized EHR system is to completely transform the EHR industry by eliminating centralized, siloed and inefficient software such as Cerner and Epic. By extension, I intend to reform healthcare around the world by finally placing the entire depth of a patient's medical history in the hands of their rightful owners - not hospitals, not insurance providers, not pharmaceuticals - but the patients themselves!
I would be absolutely honored if I was chosen to go to SteemFest2 this November. Not only would I get the once in a lifetime opportunity to meet all of the cool and interesting Steemians with whom I've been interacting for months, but I would also be totally thrilled if I could present my project en vivo at SteemFest2! That's right folks - I'm talking about standing on stage in front of the entire community and showcasing my Decentralized EHR project!
By the way, I have tentatively named it Medibyte although I will be officially launching the name of the solution as well as starting a logo competition with @officialfuzzy on Steemit this week - stay tuned and get ready!
I am currently working with the BitShares development team to iron out the architecture of the Decentralized EHR. After successfully completing the design and defining the architecture, we will start developing the prototype which I would absolutely LOVE to present at SteemFest2!
I would greatly appreciate it @stellabelle if this contest could completely fund my trip to SteemFest2 this November. I would also be forever grateful to you if you could convince the powers that be (Ned Scott, Dan Larimer, @roelandp and anyone else organizing this conference) to grant my team and I the opportunity to present our project to a live Steemit audience.
In less than 2 months, Steemit has become my second home and I can't think of anything more amazing than to unveil my dream project to my Steemit family before we start pitching our solution to healthcare and blockchain industry experts around the world.

I would like to attend SteemFest2 from Wednesday November 1 to Sunday November 5. Thus, I will be arriving on Tuesday, October 31 (more like early morning on November 1) and leaving on Monday, November 6. Since I live in Washington D.C., I will first need to take an Amtrak train to Newark, New Jersey on October 31. I will also take the return train back from Newark to DC on November 6. Below please find my expected train expenses:
Upon arriving in Newark, I will take a direct flight to Lisbon with TAP on October 31 around 7:15 pm for an arrival early morning around 6 am. On November 6, I will take the return flight from Lisbon to Newark, leaving around 11:20 am and arriving in Newark around 2:30 pm EST. Below please find my expected flight expenses with the special SteemFest discount code already applied:
Finally, I would like to stay at the HF Fenix Music in Lisbon from November 1 – November 6 (5 nights). Below please find my expected hotel expenses:
Since breakfast is included every morning, I don’t think I’ll need any additional allowance for food. I should have enough to cover myself for lunch and dinner every day in Lisbon – hurray for cryptocurrency!
Please let me know if you need any more details regarding my desired itinerary and expenses.
Thank you immensely @stellabelle for organizing this incredible contest to send minnows to the greatest event in Steemit history! May the most deserving candidates be selected to go to SteemFest2. At the very least, I hope that my entry is able to demonstrate the importance of changing the world by first reforming healthcare systems around the globe via a decentralized patient-owned system.
Until next time, keep acing life!
Thanks for your entry! Good luck!

Man steemfest needs to come to california
Haha yup California is awesome!
Coins really can change the world.
They certainly can, especially if they are used primarily as a means to access blockchain applications to solve real-world problems.
'Until next time, keep acing life!'
Haha right on, STEEM ON brother!

Blockchain is the future of health care system.
Exactly and we intend to be a major part of this future!
Nobody has time to do the job rightly because most of the people are either in the wrong field or they are getting paid less so they want to do extra jobs to make as much money as they want to live a life of their choice or almost like that. Take the example of steemit, how many people are using it in the right way?
If you have the desire and the determination to accomplish something, then you will find all the time in the world to do it. Stay tuned!
If you have the desire and the determination.... the word if says it all.

Best of luck in the competition, you deserve to win.
What an amazing project you've got going. I'm recently recovering from a heart attack and liver problems and have spent a lot of time in hospital. I live in the UK and got free treatment on the national health service. If i had to pay for my treatment i wouldn't of been able to afford it.Any way of improving how current health services would be beneficial to everyone.
Thanks @makrotheblack, I really appreciate you sharing your story with me. Experiences like yours truly reinforce the importance of making healthcare accessible to everyone on this planet regardless of how much they make and where they're from. I'll keep you all posted on our progress and can't wait to present our project to the entire community.
I hope your trip is funded! I would LOVE to help with this project! I am not a developer, but have helped build a cloud-based EHR system.

Good of you to recognize the importance of quality universal healthcare. "Care" is a universal human trait, that we can all give and receive to our brothers and sisters. Feeling inspired to cry out: "All for one and one for all!"
Thanks @cabelindsay, I appreciate your support. This project is for everyone and we will make sure that we can put the "care" back into "healthcare"!
Thanks @shahaalam!
