Proposal #20 fails to pass due to a split vote.
The final vote (by weight):
in favor: 1.000
against: 1.000
The rule shall therefore not come into effect. The next proposal phase has now started. This phase will continue for the next 24 hours. Users are permitted to submit their proposals via comment to this post.
Here's the updated current land distribution. Below is the current land placement map showing currently placed or grown LAND. Each player has a letter next to their name corresponding with successful placements on the map.

Meta Rules will stay the same throughout the game. Game Rules can be altered through proposals.
Steemfield Meta Rules:
- The controller of the totem (Me) is not a player.
- The controller of the totem must behave according to the rules established by the players and those established by the beginning of the game.
- The person controlling the totem can dissolve the totem at any time thus ending the game.
- The person may relinquish control of the totem to another person. The rules apply to the updated statuses of both people.
- A rule change will occur once per round, each round is a minimum of three days (72 hours). A rule change is defined as the addition, subtraction, or replacement of a single rule.
- Rule changes are voted upon within proposals that the totem publishes. Every player can vote in favor of the proposal, against the proposal, or simply not vote.
- The totem will publish the result of the vote after each round as well as the current rule set.
- The proposal period will start immediately after a results post. The voting period will start immediately after a proposal post.
- Players can only vote once per voting period and propose one proposal per proposal period.
- The game cannot start without 3 or more players in the game.
Steemfield Base Rules:
Participation
- In order to become a player in the game, any user must delegate any amount of Steem Power to the totem.
- Any player is free to leave the game at any time by removing their delegation from the totem.
- Any player is free to leave the game at any time by removing their delegation from the totem. Their LAND shall be distributed to the remaining players in the opposite way LAND is delegated at the end of each round (i.e. one LAND to the youngest player, one LAND to the next youngest player, etc.) until the leaving player's LAND is zero.
Voting and Proposals
- Only players can vote on rule changes.
- The maximum amount of effective delegated power is 1 Steem Power.
- The proposal for a rule change only passes if the total sum of voting weight in favor exceeds the voting weight against.
- The voting weight of a player is the square of the effective delegated power.
- LAND may be burned in exchange for gaining higher priority for proposal consideration. Burning has the effect of removing the LAND from play. If a player burns 1 LAND, the LAND count and the total number of LAND decreases by 1. Let the proposal score be the number of accepted proposals minus the number of burnt land by the given player. The player with the lowest proposal score will have their proposals considered before others.
- A player's proposal will then be accepted by the amount of effective delegated power. If this is still tied, then the player who has been in the game the longest shall be granted preference.
- The proposal period is 24 hours.
- The voting period for a proposal is 24 hours.
- The player whose proposal passes during a round gets 1 LAND given to them from the totem.
Totem Behavior
- The totem account cannot perform any operations outside of those specified in the meta rules and the rules.
- The totem account may accept rewards from comments and posts.
- The totem account is the final judge on rule interpretation and resolving conflicts in rule contradictions and conflicts. These resolutions will published be in the next results post.
- The totem account may comment as they please, but can only post proposals and results.
Gameplay
- Each player will be rewarded with 1 LAND at the end of each round. This will be given from the oldest player to the newest player until LAND runs out.
- The totem account will keep track of the LAND of each player and publish these in the results post.
- There will be a total of 100 LAND total given away by the totem account.
- The cap on total LAND is 100.
- Any player to get 51 LAND wins the game.
- Any player can gift any LAND they possess to any other player.
- If the totem decides a player is not following the rules, they will be denied receiving 1 LAND at the end of the round.
- Any round in which a player does not make a proposal, half of their LAND, rounded down, will be redistributed to the players who did make a proposal in the next Totem update, in the same way that new LAND is allocated (from oldest player to newest player, one by one).
- If a player recruits a new player, which will be determined by the new player mentioning who referred them, the new player and the referee are granted 1 LAND each.
- Game Rules accepted by vote can occlude Meta Rules. Game Rules take precedence over Meta Rules if there is a conflict.
- Land placement. Once per proposal round, LAND can be placed on integer points of a 2D 10x10 grid, where we label with (1,1) at the Southwest-most point and (10,10) at the Northeast-most point. A placement action does not reduce units of LAND: it associates a unit of LAND with coordinates. Placed land can be gifted, but not burnt.
- Any empty map location (cell) with exactly three neighboring locations (cells) grows, being allocated one LAND from the Totem owned by the player with the most neighbors of the growing cell. Neighbors are defined as the eight cells surrounding any given cell, orthogonal or diagonally. In the event of a tie, the owner of the cell in the upper left of the neighbor selection takes precedence and the growing cell becomes theirs. If there are no LANDs available for the Totem to allocate, the LAND comes from the new owner's unplaced LAND pool. If the player has no LAND to place, no growth can occur for that player and, if there was a conflict, the player with the next largest number of neighboring cells may take LAND from their pool and own the cell instead. If the Totem is out of LAND and no player who owns neighboring cells with LAND has any LAND to place, the cell does not grow and play continues.
- Players have the option of unplacing LAND instead of placing LAND during the proposal phase. An unplacement simply removes a designated placed land from the board, erasing its associated coordinates. Players can perform at most one LAND placement or unplacement operation per proposal phase.
- A map cell containing LAND can die under the following conditions: (a) if it has only one neighbor; it dies of loneliness, or (b) it has four or more neighbors; it dies of starvation. When a cell dies, the LAND it contains is placed in the LAND pool of the owner and the cell is cleared, left empty and thus a valid location to place LAND. If that location receives a PLACE in that round, the new LAND keeps that cell alive, owned by the player that placed the LAND.
- Every round, 1d6 LAND is returned to the Totem LAND pool from each player. There is a separate roll to determine the value for each player.
Rewards Allocation
- The totem account must set all comments and posts to 50% SP / 50% SBD.
- The winner of the game shall receive all liquid currency the totem has accumulated as a result of the game when they win.
Implementation Details
Proposals
Proposals will be made by commenting (no posting) on the results post using the following format. All relevant content must be separated from the rest of the comment by line separator(s) (three or more dashes) as well as the curly brackets with the proposal and type inside separated with a colon. You should also include the effected rule (by section & number OR by quoting the rule) if the proposal is a replacement or subtraction. Remember there are rule change types: ADDITION, SUBTRACTION, REPLACEMENT. All discussion and reasoning should occur outside the line separators.
Format
{PROPOSAL:TYPE}
TYPE, AFFECTED RULES IF APPLICABLE
EXPLANATION OF RULE
Example
{PROPOSAL:REPLACEMENT}
Replacement: Gameplay, Rule 4
The cap on total land is 500.
I think that the cap on land is too low and given the number of players in the game, individuals will struggle to get to even double digit LAND.
Voting
Voting is rather straight forward. You simply comment below a proposal either YES or NO within curly brackets. You may then add anything else to that comment that you desire. Note that voting more than once (or proposing for that matter) may result in punishment by the totem (see rule changes above).
Example
{YES}
Because the cap on LAND is too low and I really want some more LAND.
Other Actions
There are other actions that one may perform in Steemfield. These actions will evolve over time as more rules and gameplay are added to the game over time. These actions are defined in the rules above and are implemented below:
A referred player should use the following tag to signal who referred them underneath a post written by the totem:
{REFERRED_BY:@referring-player}
To gift land, a player simply use the following tag with a target amount NUM less than or equal to the amount of LAND they own:
{GIFT_NUM_LAND_TO:@some-player}
To burn LAND, underneath a post written by the totem, use the following notation to burn NUM LAND. The amount of LAND burned by each player will be tracked by the totem and updated for each results post.
{BURN:NUM}
To place LAND, underneath a results post, in order to associate LAND with coordinates, use the following notation:
{PLACE: L(A, B)}
Where A is the coordinate in the x direction (horizontal on the map) and B is the coordinate in the y direction (vertical on the map). Note that invalid placements will be ignored and if you place more LAND than you have, that will not only be ignored but will be considered a rules violation. Also land placements where LAND already is will be ignored. Once land is placed, a 10x10 grid will be provided to display were LAND is currently is. Also note, that as the rule is currently interpreted, you will only be able to be place one LAND per turn. If there is a conflict where both players place LAND in the same location the same turn, priority goes to the player that placed first.
Players are also able to remove placed LAND through unplacement. To unplace LAND, simply use the following notation which uses the same coordinate system as above:
{UNPLACE: L(A, B)}
Note that unplacing an empty cell will do nothing, but still count as a placement action. Remember that you have only one placement action (place or unplace) per a turn. Multiple actions will be considered a rules violation. The way the rule is written you can only remove one LAND during an unplacement. The owner of the LAND before the unplacement maintains control of the LAND, but it is no longer considered "placed".
With respect to LAND growth, a snapshot of the map is taken and then LAND will be allocated starting from (0,0) going along the first row, then the next until all cells have been visited. Remember LAND is grown when an empty cell has exactly three neighbors for the snapshot for that round. Note that this snapshot occurs right after LAND is placed for a turn.
Die Rolling
Die rolling is optionally done by either the player or the totem. If the rule requires all players roll, then the totem will perform the rolls for the players that opt to not do it themselves. This give players the illusion of control for what its worth. If you want to roll, it must occur during the proposal phase, as the totem will perform the other rolls during the voting phase. All effects will take place after the rolling is done in the voting phase and after LAND growth. If you roll multiple times, I will take the oldest roll. Your rolls will only count if they occur underneath the most recent results post.
For our purposes, for 1d6 rolls, we'll use the rollthedice steem bot to make things transparent. See this article to learn how to use it or I can roll on your behalf.
Event Timing
Here's how events are processed based on rules and current precedent:
- Player leaving (when it occurs)
- LAND growth / death
- LAND loss (via rolling)
- Turn reward
- Proposal reward
- Proposal penalty

Voting and Proposals, Rule 1
Any steem blockchain user can vote on a proposal. If they have not anted into the game, their vote counts as 0.01 STEEM in the case of ties.
If you're going to make big, late game changes – make big, late game changes.
(My first thought was to remove that rule altogether, but I realized that would make voting in general undefined, which would be mildly awkward.)
