What Happen to Monday? - CinemaBun Film Suggestion

What happened to Monday? is a science fiction action thriller.

It’s a film by the Norwegian Director Tommy Wirkola, who’s first real film was the cult classic Dead Snow.

It stars the Swedish actress Noomi Rapace in seven different roles… a performance of a lifetime. We can also find William Dafoe and Glenn Close in a cold hearted role…

The movie it’s set in a not so distant future where the China’s one child policy would seem a gift from above… The population has reached an unsustainable number and so a law was created. The law makes it that if anyone is/ has a sibling he will be frozen until we have the resources.

Noomi Rapace plays seven siblings that managed to get into their adult lives with out getting into trouble.

But trouble starts to find them…

What Happen to Monday? Is a good movie, I would say it’s worth watching. It has an interesting well build story that develops as we go along. It’s a good thriller, it’s a good science fiction movie, it has some (while subtle) incredible effects, it’s entertaining while having a lot to say about society and people.

I personally don’t usually talk about effects but this one is worth mentioning. They took the face replacement á la “Social network” and took it to another level. Quite impressive stuff.. and it’s fun seeing the first movie by the director and see how far has he come.

The Movie is form 2017 and the original title was “Seven Sister’s” a title that best describes the movie in my opinion, but I’m “What happen to Monday?” Is also good… leaving more opened to interpretation. For example I had only heard someone mentioning the movie before. I did not see the trailer or anything … I had no ideia the actress would play seven roles nor that with was science fiction movie. Good title also.

I’m not sure, but it the title could had been changed once Netflix bought the movie. Yes it is on Netflix has a Netflix Original and also available on Dvd /Blue Ray.

It has some solid action scenes, and it tries (and succeeds) to give this genre movie a particular spin and voice. It has some great acting very competent directing. The villains, for exemple are very interestingly created and explored and the ending while satisfying it’s also a tinny bit ambiguous. A happy but “ok… then…” ending, not an easy task to pull.

In Short I would say it’s a solid film worth watching. I personally recommend you see it without seeing the trailer, but in case you want it... Here is the trailer:

That’s all for today.

As always, thank you for reading.
