RE: How To Use Whaleshares: SteemGigs Contest.

in #steemgigs7 years ago

Love the concept and have tried it a few times. It is a little bit expensive though...because the spread on Bitshares to buy Whaleshares is really high. And if you buy too many whaleshares and want to sell some back...you have just lost 50% because the spreads are so high.

Would be nice if there was an established rate for buying/selling whaleshares and not such a crap shoot.

Sort:

that's a backdrop, but I suppose they are not there for trading but for using on our post.

True...but then why not make it simple to purchase? Having to go bid and watch pricing trends adds another layer of complexity.

well, for stability it takes time, doesn't it. Even the topmost currencies are not stable yet. The process is simple though, send sbd to bitshares.org and buy bts to convert it to whaleshares. It takes same steps as it takes to convert sbd to USD, so not a very big deal and you don't have to do it daily. You can buy it one time.

Agreed...I have had no issue going through those steps and use it often. I'm comparing the complexity to the other paid voting bots. The other bots don't have nearly as much power though...so each has their own strengths/weaknesses.

does it work on old posts aswell?

Not sure...I assume limit is posts 6.5 days or younger.

true.

Can I use steem dollars via wallet to buy whale share or send money/ steem to my open ledger account? and how many worth of upvotes will you get with 100 whaleshare?

yes you can send sbd in the bitshares wallet.

Thanks. Can Beyondbit and whaleshares be used to promote one post? I used 1 beyond bit and later 2 whaleshares in a post and my whaleshare vote didnt show...which one is more profitable?

beyondbits gives you more value per beyondbit, but they cost 1.5 times whaleshares. And yes I have tried it, both of them can be used on same post.

Not sure about direct from Steem. The most traded market for Whaleshares on Bitshares is with BTS. The spread is between 2 and 5 right now (2 to sell, 5 to buy). https://bitshares.org/wallet/#/market/WHALESHARE_BTS

Each whaleshares that you spend gets you a 1% vote. If you spend 5, you still only get 1 vote, but it's worth 5% power.

Thanks for your response. So the only way for us to buy whaleshares via openledger wallet is via bitcoin? whci easy way can I transfer funds there...can I use my steemit wallet? so 100 whaleshares is then 100% upvote, guess it will cost a lot

The exchange is with BTS (bitshares) actually. BTS is around 31-32 cents so could be anywhere from 60 cents to $1.50 per whaleshare.

Great so I can use my wallet for the transaction andsed some steem dollars to Bitshares ...procedure is quite complicated having been trying since last week. Thanks a lot

nice one @financialcritic

what is the dollar equivalent to buy a 50 and a 100 whaleshare value
and do they have effect on it or good ROI?

so one can use his steem dollar, exchange for btc after which he can then buy bitshares and trade for whale shares...isnt that rather a long process?

Cost depends on what price you get a whaleshare for. Currently selling for 2 to 5 BTS (bitshare not bitcoin) per whaleshare. So 100 whaleshares would cost between $60 to $150.

ok...thanks...for this wonderful insights

If you start the process from steemit SBD, it is a very long process, but I am sure they will cut it short as it is still in its initial period.
