It has upgraded its iconic line of laptop computers with faster core processors, larger memory and better security.
The Pro models start at a mammoth £1,749 for the 13-inch model and £2,349 for a 15 inch device.
Both these computers are fitted with the controversial Touch Bar interface running across the top of the keyboard that’s like a little touchscreen which changes its function depending on what app you’re using.
Anyone hoping for an update to the cheaper Macbook Pro models which don’t have this divisive feature have not been updated.
The Macbooks come with 8th-generation Intel processors, making the 15-inch model up to 70 percent faster and the 13-inch model up to two times faster.
The new MacBook Pro includes support for up to 32GB of memory, an improved keyboard for quieter typing and will also be able to compile code faster.
The company said that the Apple T2 chip, first introduced in the iMac Pro, will provide better system security and also bring voice assistant Siri to the Mac for the first time.
In April, the 13-inch MacBook Pros without touch bars had come under scrutiny, with some users reporting battery-related issues. Apple had said it was not a safety issue and had offered worldwide free replacement for such batteries.
‘The latest generation MacBook Pro is the fastest and most powerful notebook we’ve ever made,’ said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing.
‘Now with 8th-generation 6-core processors, up to 32GB of system memory, up to 4TB of super fast SSD storage, new True Tone technology in its Retina display and Touch Bar, the Apple T2 chip for enhanced security and a third-generation quieter keyboard packed into its thin and light aluminium design with all-day battery life, it’s the best notebook for pro users.’
