Ice Stupa
Artificial Glaciers

This artificial glacier provides fresh water to people in the Himalayas. It's called an 'Ice Stupa' and it was created by Sonam Wangchuk.
The 'Ice Stupa' stores water and helps farmers overcome water shortages. The 'Ice Stupa' act like mini-glaciers slowing releasing water during the growing season.
A pipeline collects water from glacier streams and pressure builds on the pipes shooting water out and freezing it into ice cubes.
Wangchuk received a grant from Rolex: he will create 20 more 'Ice Stupas' to supply 10 million liters of water in the Himalayas.

Wow, this is very cool!
Pros:
Cons:
This is an amazing innovation. I wonder how far they are able to pipe the water in? Is there any temperature restriction or limits. I think I will be doing a little more research on this and showing it to my students.
Wow. That's a lot of water stored pretty easily. That's a serious big deal.
Nice catch.
its really nice. thanks @bigtom13 and @folken
Wait what? How do people come up with these incredible and slightly bizarre ideas?!?
WOW This is great! And it's helpful to people. What a combination!
