Have you ever imagined how things are for the blind, day in and day out? I guess we do not need to play blind to be able to imagine the challenges of being one. Lucky and blessed are those blind who have relatives or personal aides who take care of them all throughout. But how about those who do not have anyone? Either way, lack of vision is a challenge to both the blind and their aides. That is where this device from Toyota comes in - BLAID.
I haven't found the meaning of BLAID but I thought it is "Blind's aid." It is a device worn around the shoulders of the blind and is equipped with cameras that detect the user's surrounding. It scans the surrounding and communicates to the blind through speaker and vibration. On the other hand, the user can interact with it through voice recognition or button wherein the user can ask for the device to locate the washroom, elevator, etc.

Blind people are scared to go outside because they can't see anything and it needs training to in every place to be familiarize the place. So having this innovative tech is really helpful for blind people that their dreams to walk outside without worries. Nice hunt.
I totally agree. This will give the visually impaired person to have the confidence to act not really as normal but at least near to normal.
I can deeply understand the requirement of a blind person as I have practically seen the daily to day life of blind people. Be its daily schedule of activity in home or going outside to a bank or market they come across challenges like heavy traffic and many other things. Not everyone is blessed with caring person around a blind person and hence the technology has to come up to help blind people. In that sense it can help a lot and ease off the daily job of a blind person. As it is placed at the shoulder area it can navigate the surrounding in a much better way and ultimately can boost the confidence of a blind person.

A more than adequate invention for blind people. As you say, not everyone has family or friends who can help them with this disability and that this invention can assist them through speakers with their other senses is very good. Great hunt!

Wow we the people who have all the gifts from the Almighty are indeed the lucky ones in this world. Whereas the people lacking the things that they were suppose to have in their we hardly can imagine their suffer but yeah with today's tech we can make them feel a little better and make their life a lot easier. Great hunt. I think if a tool can help the blind to not rely on stick and guide dogs and can make them as free as a person with normal eyesight, its great. Even with guide dogs or other tools, it will only help enhance safety when a blind person is mobile. Really nice.
Now that you mentioned about safety then I wonder if this detects moving vehicles too. I hope so...
Actually this device is really awesome for blinds people who have no one to care. Just imagine that you are a blind and not deaf. You have this device come from Toyota and when you go out for any work this device like neckband give you instructions by its sounds and vibration. It has cameras and let you know where are you and what is about in front of you.
