Not only would this fight traffic problems, but it would do so in an eco-friendly way. Yes, the infrastructure would cost to instal these systems, but I can't see it being significantly more than trams, which seem to be spreading like wild-fire (at least in the UK they are).
And they'll be much easier, cheaper and less invasive then Elon Musk's 'drill a huge tunnel under the city' idea (don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of his). This approach blows the tunnelling idea out of the water.
