RE: Case 12: @rtdcs is growing a gang of sock-puppets

Hi @sherlockholmes

This is just amazing!! How can he make all these fake accounts in such a short time?
I have heard from several people how hard for them to open a 2nd account for someone in their family or because they lost the 1st account somehow.

They say that steemit wouldn't approve these accounts or takes a lot of time to approve them.
Yet, here is a guy, opening more than 100 accounts without a problem!! How is that even possible?

This is just disturbing. I hope I will hear from you an answer for this @sherlockholmes.

Sort:

Waiting times between the initial account registration and their approval has indeed increased and many users have reported waiting for several weeks to get their accounts approved.

I cannot judge how long this particular user had to wait in between applying for the accounts and getting them approved.

This appears again and again. I have no insight into the vetting process at steemit, but I am almost certain it is nothing but a simple check for duplicate usage of credentials. So, as long as you can come up with "fresh" email addresses and phone numbers you can keep registering for accounts.

I am under the impression that account approval has slowed down specifically in regions where temporary phones are easy to get, possibly just because the backlog of such applications is growing dis-proportionally or because steemit does check these more closely, but there's no real indication for the latter.

Dear @sherlockholmes,
Thank you for your reply.

Although, we still don't know exactly how these things happen, I still feel assured and respected because I got an answer from you.

Thank you again and keep up the great work :)
