Mushrooms in Austria

in #steemit-austria7 years ago (edited)

I know that it is not yet a season for mushrooms but some of them could be found in the forest already now. For example morels. Two years ago I went in Burgenland to pick them but found just couple :).

I know one very nice mycologist in Austria who makes mushroom excursions. He knows all the names of mushrooms, their spices and even how to use them.

I learned from him that even inedible mushrooms could be very beautiful and useful creatures. For example violet mushroom or one with black powder inside, when you press on it looks like a small bomb.

The best time for picking mushrooms in Austria is August, September. At this time you can find many edible mushrooms.

I found a big tree mushroom which is called in English Artist's conk, because if you turn it around you have a white body where you can write.

Hi @balabastic. Are any of the tree-growing mushrooms edible? I often go mushroom picking in France but have I've always wondered...

Hi @osm0sis! Yes, there are some tree0growing mushrooms you can eat, but of course all of them have to be cooked. There are some edible: Pleurotus cornucopiae (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pleurotus_cornucopiae), Grifola frondosa (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grifola_frondosa), Enokitake (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enokitake), Kuehneromyces mutabilis (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuehneromyces_mutabilis). And some of them also used in medicine, for example different kinds of Ganodermas. And yes with mushrooms we have to be very careful, I normally eat one I'm sure about, otherwise it's dangerous :)))

Interesting post you have, i like them. From mushrooms to Kafka & bugs....
Cool, pls don´t hurt them, they might be only imaginary ;)

Thank you, no one was killed)))
