The Who Knew Nudist Colony
Cap d'Agde Naturist Village-France
Maybe it was in 1985 more or less, the date does not matter really, the circumstances seem to now be hilarious , back then the circumstances were surprising, but I don't remember laughing!
My buddy and business partner John and I have just landed in Paris, France on the Concord from JFK New York. We discover jet lag is possible even if the trip was in half the time of other airlines .
Our eventual destination is Bremen Germany where we are to board and inspect a ferry headed for Helgoland, we are in negotiations to purchase the ship in order to relocate it to the East Coast of Florida to use as a gambling boat.
After a few hours of night driving we decide it best to find a hotel and crash for a day or two before continuing our journey.
Somehow, someway the hotel we find in the wee hours of the morning is in the beach town of Cap d'Agde, unbeknownst to us at the time a famous Naturist Village,
John and I are a long way from naturalists though soon we are to become familiar with the term.
The late nite check in was normal, bim bam boom we hit our rooms and crash. The next morning I awake early, mosey on downstairs and notice a supermarket across the street, I walk oven to check it out, its early so only a few customers, but most of them are half naked, one topless woman in particular caught my attention, she was inspecting cantaloupes and seem particularly well undressed for the occasion! hmmm I think: well I guess France deserves its reputation as a libertarian paradise!
A little bit strange I thought that the cashier was also topless, but again, its France think I. I assume that on summer holiday the dress code was to wear as little as possible.
Returning to the Hotel I see John at the front desk and we decide to hit the beach, its still very early so were the first to arrive . We spread ourselves out on the soft white sand and doze off for a while.
We are soon awakened by the arrival of a family of six, a mom and dad with their two daughters and two sons, none of the children over ten or so. Thing is they are all nude!
Now fully awake to say the least I put two and one together: were at a nudist camp artfully called a naturist village! We are to say at the least surprised as other arrivals come into view with the same dress code, nude.
As I mentioned “Naturalist” was not our style. We check out and head for Germany, laughing from a safe distance all the way
The lesson learned. ? Clothing was invented for a reason!
