Welcome to AMAWED, @jeaniepearl! Thanks for your question. The number beside your steemit username signifies your reputation. Many thanks to @surpassinggoogle for responding to the second part of your question. Numerically, in steemit, you would need to have over 1 billion vests (>1,000,000,000 vests/ about 500,000,000 SP) to be a whale. Moreover, like @surpassinggoogle stated you need to have a whale mentality and be the best version of yourself. That is when you would see true growth. I hope this response and @surpassinggoogle's help.

Thank you ma'am
I followed you just yesterday and am already learning a lot
Keep it up

Great, @jeaniepearl! I'm glad that you are already learning a lot. Meanwhile, I would like to congratulate you again for emerging the winner this week for @steem-lagos' weekly contest for newbies. Keep the steem flag flying, dear!

Become a whale? You are whale to me.

The number has more to with a behavior paradigm: "mine with mind" and you continue to become the best version of yourself, the number rises. Basically, when a community of reputable great minds who aren't affiliated to you come around to vote on you for evolving aright, the number grows. in the world of today's stats still matter

I really appreciate, thanks for enlighten me
And that quote "you are a whale to me"
Such an encouragement
Thanks
