[Steemit] Taking time out to CURATE (manually)

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

But first... a large coffee !

There is a wealth of value not only in crypto projects, but also… Steemit posts!... to be uncovered in the fast-changing quicksand of Steemit tags under the 'big 4' familiar in the top menu. Such shiny posts can then be tied in to your own blog interests (via a hearty Resteem) or voted on to simply aid in their discovery and brought to the attention of a community ever-eager for quality posts. It shouldn't just be left to the bots.

Look for posts that are fairly young (you could find a gem and gain significant rewards) and give them a vote if you think they have value. The actual voting algorithm is quite complex.

What makes a good post?

This one! Maybe... you decide(!) You'll know it when you see it, for post appreciation lies - to some extent - in the eye of the beholder. But it probably means it has reached you in some way; contained useful or inspiring content, and is probably of decent length. But does it make for a post that raises the standard of posting and writing (and microblogging) in general?

It’s also worth checking beneath it to see whether or not a bot (like @cheetah) has detected if they’ve copied /pasted from other sites. It might be that the poster is using a wordpress plug-in like Steempress so that doesn't count I guess. However, sometimes they’ve been translated from foreign sites into English etc, and are therefore are not detected by cheetah (you might find the language has strange words and just doesn’t read natively.)

Curation is what will help Steemit, the community, and others, if you take a coffee break out from your own postings, which many members just don’t make time to do. Probably as it takes time and effort, but the potential rewards for you besides earnings include:

  • wider knowledge in your field
  • inspiration for your own posts
  • enhancing your daily feed of followers
  • an enhanced blog, when others call by your page.

A Handy Tip...

I find I get side-tracked so easily even in the 4 categories at the top of Steemit, which is really a shame as there are so many tags to explore on the left.

If you find it annoying to have to scroll down all tags just goto: https://steemit.com/tags

Or... just add on, after the end of the address headings (in your top browser bar) some hobby or subject you’re interested in:

See examples (in black) below of minor tags that are more specific:

https://steemit.com/trending/ gameofthrones https://steemit.com/created/ wordart (note: ‘created’ is the ‘new’ category) https://steemit.com/hot/ stellarlumens https://steemit.com/promoted/ ps4

If you don’t find any posts under these categories then you’ll have to go less specific…
Or do a search in the Steemit search bar where posts may not have been tagged but still written on this subject…
Or just make your own post with this tag, and be the first! eg. #insertyourtaghere

Any other thoughts/tips on how you curate or any info to add to this?

STEEM on!

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

find that I get side-tracked so easily in the 4 categories at the top of Steemit, wich is really a shame as there are so many tags to explore on the left.
It should be which instead of wich.

cheers u bot!
