Steemit: Let's Imagine

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Imagine a world where we (the individuals) get to choose what ads we see. Imagine also getting some reimbursement for viewing ads.

Imagine a world where freedom of speech exists...where physical harm is understood to be infinitely worse than mere words that could be spoken or written.

Imagine a world where you and your online friends routinely pool your attention together toward certain real world goals.

Imagine a world without middlemen adding friction to everything in our lives.

Imagine a world where it is not mainly the rich who have investments...where being a part of a community grants you an investment (however small) in that community.

Block chain technology allows us to bypass the middleman.
Steemit encourages freedom of speech as nothing can be deleted from a consensus built block chain.
Steemit allows us to pool our resources (our attention) toward real world goals. Steem Park is one example of this, but charities are also bound to benefit from the attention model. If you're curious about Steem Park: https://steemit.com/steempark/@hitheryon/steem-park-is-official-steemit-s-first-crowdsourced-marketing-project

With Steemit, all users get an automatic (and growing as you earn) investment in the Steemit Platform. Users who prefer to make consistent withdrawals can still do so. Up until now it's been difficult for many people to invest. More people buy lottery tickets than actually have investments. Having a social network with a built in default investment could be a game changer for many users.

Why does Steem have value? Where is the money coming from? It's investors who make this possible. Investors are not saints; they just try to predict future success.

So the real question shouldn't be "where is the money coming from?", but instead "why do investors believe Steemit will succeed?" Steemit investors believe that the attention economy is the future. Each of us who use Facebook are worth real money to the company, but we don't see any of that. I'm not promoting an attitude of entitlement, but instead suggesting that if we as individuals hold real world value in what we do in our free time on social networks, maybe..just maybe we should be the ones who see a direct benefit from that value.

Tell that to greedy corps and their satellites. Everyone deserves freedom it is a moral duty of every online user to oppose the agressive marketing and exploatation of their own content for the solo purpose of getting the social media corporations even more richer.

I don't know if Steemit or some other project will battle hard Facebook, Twitter, Google and Youtube but I'm sure that they must fall down. They are manipulating the market, human needs in a way of false advertising and promoting the projects in illegal way.

Steemit is a place of freedom and will stay so!

As long as Steemit holds to its core values we'll be ok. Honestly I'm pretty sure they will as it's what separates them from other social networks.

well written and very thought provoking Alben -- i see we are struck with similar thinking at this time

Yes you spoke right.. steemit has a future. Its not just earning or investment platform, i learned how to write and even i am addicted to write that i loved so much. Its really a wonderful idea. I don't have much to invest otherwise i would have invested my 100% on it.

It's wonderful. Even those who aren't making much money here can still use it for so many good things.. a place to post anything they like. Everything is timestamped and essentially will always exist. There's no one server in the world someone can attack to delete our posts. There's no moderation except by the community in the form up flagging. It's definitely exciting to be a part of Steemit so early on (it's still just in Beta!). Can't wait to see what the future holds.

Definitely a lot in Steemit that is worthy of praise. However I believe there is an important risk involved in it becoming widely adopted by users. Currently we have our whales going around and they are called whales, while they hold not particularly high amounts of investments in the platform. Relatively high, but not absolutely high.

Imagine if this was a network the size of Facebook and at the same time had its existing interface. The bots we'd be looking at in that scenario would be Corporate and Government owned, with a chance to massively directly influence oppinion, like on no other platform.

Let's just hope Steemit never get's that big or changes its platform by then. Which I'm pretty sure it will :)

We just need to give it time , the future holds a lot for steemit . Those who are patient , will be rewarded !

Nice Thoughts future of steemit is beautiful

Great content as aways :)

Congratulations!

It is all like the concept of Utopia.
