Is Self Voting The Reason Why Growth On Steemit Is Almost Unreachable? {repost}

in #steemit7 years ago

Ever wonder why the big people on here stay big and the small people on here stay small? Well, have you ever heard of self -voting? Of course, some people do grow quite a bit and become big, but they are the exception. Most of the big people stay big and the small people stay small, and that's how it is on steemit, and in the real world as well. There are so many simularities its crazy.

Consider the following...

Keep in mind, when it comes to growth on steemit, there are so many factors that have to be taken into mind; exposure, relationships, quality, and consistency. These are all key components to growth on steemit, but when you start out, its very hard to get any of this. It is very hard to rise up on steemit. I have a lot of faith in this platform, but one thing that kind of bugs me is the big people on here are making consistent posts and are always upvoting themselves so they only get bigger and bigger, but when they vote for someone else, they barely give them anything.

But for real though...

How do you expect minnows to grow when you only feed them a few bread crumbs? And keeping all of those factors in mind, it is already hard enough to grow, but, Keep in mind earnings are a plus, but they are what help you grow bigger on steemit and gain more traction and visibility. And it seems that most of the whales and dolphins self-vote to the point where it is getting ridiculous. If you want steemit to be a better place, you have to spread out the money so people can grow more. Most whale/dolphins if they don't vote for themselves, they mostly vote for other whales/dolphins. So not only are they being extremely selfish, but they are making it to the point to where they are hoarding the steemit rewards pool and are robbing people who spend hours and hours making good and original content who deserve to be making more than they do but are making pennies. Can anybody tell me what is wrong with this picture?

In reality...

I would see someone with a really long and thought out post that was a really good, but they didn't make what they deserve from it with the time they put into it. And the sad part is not only they are only making pennies, but they are just getting a bunch of spammers spamming them. Which makes things a whole lot more annoying. And yes, spammers are a growing problem on steemit, but as of now, we can't do much about it. What people vote on is very questionable, especially the whales and dolphins. Not only do they vote for themselves and their homies, but they vote on stuff that took little to no effort, while there are people who are writing their hearts out making great content and are trying to convey a message, you have someone voting on a post about a picture or meme with few to none words. Which to be honest makes me kind of mad because people genuinely put in effort on this platform, but doesn't get recognized.

No wonder so many people are quitting steemit and/or are not taking it seriously at all. For the most part, all they get is a few cents and a bunch of stupid spammers begging for upvotes or spamming some dumb message that has no relation to what you post. They don't even read the first sentence of your post, let alone your post at all. Where is the motivation? For me I have been blogging on steemit and have been doing okay, getting the earnings is a plus for me in my mind, but I am doing it for fun and something to keep me busy in my downtime. I also want to get my word out to as many people as possible about investing, life, philosophy, silver investing, cryptos, and whatever I find can contribute to the world. But how am I going to do so when the only people on steemit who see my stuff is a bunch of spammers? Good way make users be motivated to post.

On the bright side... :)

Of course I do have some AWESOMELY AMAZING followers and supports who have been supporting me since the beginning and who are just plain out AWESOME, so shout out to you guys for being a supporter of a 14 year old who wants his word to be heard, instead of being shut down and ignored just because of his age. But I think the key is to keep grinding, and you'll get there. Like they say, you put in work, results come from your efforts.

Steemit is a first come first serve. Take it or leave it.
I love the whales. We cannot be all whales, may be when each minnow build a SMT.
When you really understand the platform, it is PURE HUMAN at its best.
Don't get me wrong I love myself and I love my posts and my comments.
Keep on steemit and stay positive.

Honestly Alex, you sound like a whining snowflake. I like your posts and i upvote them when there good. (I am not a big shot as you can see by my rep number). Which brings me to yours. It's 57. You are not "staying small" you are climbing up the rope ladder with the rest of us. Further, complaining about fat cats here is like bemoaning somebody with a nice car who has worked really hard for it -- makes you look like a punk.
Further, i have a shit ton of sp right now, but that is because i bought it, so i could give heavier votes, and yes, make more money ultimately for ME.

I know your a young dude, and i'm not trying to be a dick, but shit man! Wailing against "the rich man" or "the whale" or whateverthefuck with idealistic rhetoric like that makes you look impotent.
Host a contest. Keep writing. Provide some valuable content and keep on trucking. Who cares if some people are greedy fucks who never share it around? I would say most, myself included, actually give away more than they take...and if they're spending on boosters then wtf again? They are supporting somebody's enterprise.

...just my two cents of opinion -- and .44 cents of upvote -- which i'm giving to you as well Mr. 2rep points higher than poor ol' me...

You took the words right out of my....keyboard. Lol. Personally, I see nothing wrong with a self-upvote. I occasionally give one to myself even.

Well said. Take my 2 cents

Agreed!

I wonder how many of these self voting big shots realize that if the minnows leave, their steem value will crash. Emperor of nothing.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Steemit is a microcosm of the real world with its good, bad, ugly. I try to stick with the good and avoid the rest.

Great post @alex-icey .... I've said this many times on here if Steemit doesn't iron out these problems of hierarchy and unfairness they are leaving the door open for a competitor to take their users away. The Whales and big investors will lose more than the users, so you would think they would be implementing some changes ..... and fast.

Wouldn't YOU like to be a whale someday?

No not at all, I don't want power over other people. The consensus should decide quality content not a handful of users .... accumulated wealth is a separate issue. Crypto is a DECENTRALISED ideology/technology ... filtering voting power to the few is the opposite of what blockchain tech is mean't to achieve.

With no decentralized "competition" there is no consensus. And i'm not talking about having power over people... This platform is fantastic! And imho, it is this way because it provides objectivity. There's no committees or "taxes" it just automatically, through many many decisions of its users, elevates the best ones amongst them all.
Of course people take advantage! Of course people can be greedy! Of course it's not "fair" if you think everyone should have equal clout.

There is no "meant to achieve" with the blockchain -- and ironically, the big money in bitcoin is in the hands of the few...

Work hard. Steem on! And vote with your upvotes.

Peace bro

alex-icey most of your post reflect the reallity, the secret here on steemit is endure the beggining of the game, never give up, keep walking!

This is why we have 400k signed up but only 30k users everyday actually posting or commenting.... Over 1 of 10 who sign up actually stick with it.

It's funny how people bitch and complain about other people making money without any clue how much work it took to get... sure they whales vote for each other... they've been friends since steemit started... others have invested their hard earned money into this platform... that's where I got 90% of my SP... from my job. Maybe when you're older you'll understand.

I dont know so much about this to be honest.

I can be wrong, but one of the ways i use to grow, slowly but steady is to use all the steemit dollar i earn and convert them in to steemit power.
That way it is my hope that my upvotes will give more, and that my own power on steemit will gow faster by doing that. :)

But as i say, i am pretty new at this, so that is just one of the ways i hope this work.
I still believe the very best way is to only write about things you truly find interesting your self, because if you are passionate by something, you tend to write much better about it, and that again make it more interesting for other to read.

In the beginning it can be tempting to kind of hunt for something to write about, just to get some posts out there. Those kind of post seldom become very good.

It when you come to think about something and you get a "ahhh, yes yes! this is something i just have to share" moment, and you think it is so interesting that you just have to let other people know about it.
That is when you will write the good posts that will be interesting for other to read also. :)
