Hey fellow Steemers, how's everyone’s day going? Mine has honestly been awesome. I got a really great chest workout in and plenty of cardio! It’s a good thing I did all of this too, know why?
Hard work pays off. We all know this, but is it true in this context? Can someone really outwork a poor diet. Well.. yes and no.
Well first of all lets get to the ground floor here. What is a poor diet and how does one define a poor diet?
Well a poor diet to me is a matter of opinion. What I think is good or bad someone else see it differently. You just never know. When I say bad dieting I mean fast food about 4-5 times a week, not caring about caloric intake at all or macro-nutrient content(Protein, Carbohydrate,Fat). That to me sounds like a poor diet. The type of diet I used to live by! My idea of poor diet might not be the same as yours but I think mine is pretty generalized.
Now the big question.. can you outwork all of those calories and STILL lose weight?
The answer is....YES you can. It’s all a matter of caloric maintenance and total energy expenditure for that day. Basically burning more calories than you consume. As long as the calories out are more than the calories in you will lose weight. The hard part with the poor diet is that you have to do a lot of work to achieve this goal. If a person were to exceed their daily caloric maintenance by say 500. That means you consumed 500 calories more that day than you have burned. I am talking to those people who just saw that piece of cheesecake at a party and just had to take a slice. Or the new pizza joint in town that you wanted to try out. You don’t have to feel guilty and ashamed. The only thing you can do is burn it off! Go for a walk, Lift weights and then do cardio after.
The point I’m trying to make here is this. You don’t have to be an ace every single day on your diet. Everyone says have a cheat meal now and again but everyone takes it way overboard. When you feel guilty after eating something bad that you’ve eaten you feel emotionally attached to that piece of food. Seriously, your emotional state is determined by that piece of food. Please, don’t let your emotional state be dictated by a piece of food! Go for a walk/hike/run/whatever you like. I really like this strategy because I can plan days where I will be eating a lot and adjust my cardio and gym caloric expenditure accordingly.
Here comes the “No” part. Yes, you can lose weight with a poor diet. The question now presents itself, how long of a poor diet? A person can lose weight eating Mcdonalds by increasing their expenditure. How long can they maintain this? After years of poor dieting it will eventually catch up with you. Clean up your diet. In this circumstance a calorie is not just a calorie. You want the majority of your caloric intake to come from whole, nutritious foods. You know what I'm talking about, the ones your mom or grandmother made you finish eating before you could move on to dessert! Moderation is the key to all things in life and food and fitness is no different.
Let me know what you guys think in the comments, do you believe it is possible to outwork a poor diet? why or why not?
