Forgive me if this is a stupid question. I assumed it was for so long that I didn't bother to ask about it. But until some months ago, half of what I made on each article went into my Steem Power, and the other half became available to me as SBD (after the curators' cut was subtracted). The interface still indicates that's the case when I am about to post something, with the "50/50" option selected.
However for some time now, when I go to check what I earned on an article, what it tells me:
...does not match up with what the wallet tab of my profile reports, with respect to how much I actually made on that article:
As you can see, my share of the article payout should have been 28. That means I would get 14 SBD and 14 Steem Power. Instead I got 14 SBD and 2.5 Steem Power. Where did the rest of it go? It sure seems like a huge chunk of my earnings on every article is somehow vanishing into nowhere.
Am I missing something? I'd sure like there to be a sensible explanation for this that I've overlooked. Either that, or I'd like the lost earnings returned to me. One or the other.
Stay Cozy!
Ever since steem and sbd has gone up above 1 usd, there have been a lot of confusion among user in steemit. But one really need to understand that the 50/50 reward is neither entirely in SBD nor in USD.
50/50 reward == 50 reward directly in SBD and 50 reward in USD(worth of SP)
Ive also thought that we get paid in steem sbd amount first. The usd value is just an estimate of what it would be in usd. The USD isn't really part of the steem blockchain algorythym at all
Hello @alexbeyman, dont worry, you have confusion in understanding the 50/50 ratio. And please note the following :-
To know in details please visit the following post where complete explanation is given.

Thanks...steem on...and stay blissul...
While SBD is a flat rate against the dollar amount that rewards are measured in, steem power is payed out against the value of steem. Someone else probably answered this but there ya go.
This is happening to every user. After going in details i got to know that this is all because of the price of the steem but i am not sure about it.
Another thing happens to me today is that i found that a payout on my post that was $55 two days ago is now today at only $43 and i am assuming that it will go below $40 till the payout date.
May be because of the price of the steem but i am not sure. Correct me if i am wrong.
Like people said i believe it is because of price fluctuations in the market.
feel free to check out a post i did.I tend to write quality content in an attempt to make the steem platform better and educate people who may potentially be less informed regarding the topics.

I think. The reason is the price of steem. I feel ya, we are getting less steem because the price is up and it is based on USD. You get less steem when the price is up.
I thought maybe that was it, but wasn't sure. Thanks.
Yeah, that's what it is, man. The more Steem goes up the less you get, the lower it is the more you get. I'm getting the same thing where now my Steem power is very slowly trickling upwards since I end up with like 0.5-1 Steem on most payouts now, so you're not alone, lol.
yup...you're missing something.
the problem is the $ sign...
it's misleading.
go to https://steemit.com/@dragosroua and read what he says about it recently.
he explains it very well.
Just what I needed, my dude. Big thanks.
you're welcome.
I think it gets jacked up between the price of Steem and how the first 30 minutes isn't the curation/author split kind of split too? I wish this kind of stuff was more transparent because I've started taking a closer look at my earnings and noticing similar.
Lmao, don't be confused. The first half is SBD that is always equal to 1 usd and the other half is SP that is the current price of steem in usd.
I'm surprised that you ask that question only now lol. But isn't it better now? You get much more rewards comparing to older times.

Looks like other people covered it. The payout formula is set assuming SBD is pegged to the dollar which it isn't and assumes that Steem is floating. The higher Steem gets the less you will get.
A month or two ago when both SBD and STEEM were about a dollar you would get equal amounts of both. We are still doing good though because the payouts are higher then is shown due to the high price of SBD.
@alexbeyman,
This is a ? for me either! Still trying to figure this out! This $ doesn't mean USD, it's SBD, but it's another story! But we need to figure this out correctly! If you get a correct answer, please share it with us! If I get I will do the same!
Cheers~
With the volatility in the market prices have varied and thus payouts will very as well I think this is the major cause and effect however I am new to steemit and not sure this is the case.
Yes. I noticed that too. I think this is going on since sbd is not attached to 1 usd. I look it in this way; You get 50 procent of sbd and 50 % to steem from 28 sbd reward. That's 14 sbd and another half of 14$ is around 2.5 steem. Cuz steem iz around 6$. That another half that you get in steem it seems to be programmed and attached to dollar. 2.5 x price of steem is 14$.
The steem power that you earn is based on the price of steam. You got 14 usds in steem which equals 2.537steem at the time of rewards. You get 14 sbd's because it is in theory suppsed to be tied to the usd. Hope this helps! :)
It is actually paying out in your favor.
That's $28.15 (value in US dollars) split 50/50,half SP and half SBD
One SP is worth about $4.50, so 2.537 SP x 4.5 = $11.41 at current price.
But those SBD are worth even more AND you have more of them 14.075 SDB x $5.50(the current price of SBD) =$77.41
So that reward would be worth $88.82 (USD) at today's prices.
Why does Steemit pay out so much SBD? Probably because it was expected that the SBD would only ever be worth $1 and not $5.51 as it is right now. So you get a nice bonus on one half of the 50/50 pay out.
I hope people know about Steemit's currency market, that's all I'll say about that.
I completely understand your frustration. Having huge respect for what you do all the novels, posts, articles. It’s your job and I would be furious if my boss shortened my salary for no reason. But I’m afraid that this might have something to do with Steem price, but I’m no expert, I gues someone has to have clear answer for this. This could impact all of us.
The steem is paid out in USD so 14 is like 2.1ish steem.
I don't think USD is part of the steem blockchain algo at all. The usd is just an estimate. Steemit doesn't even need to usd estimate on the platform.
Seems like I picked a bad time to finally jump on-board here. Seems as soon as I posted my introduction, it started to tank.
Sorry :P
I tried to get you to join sooner.
True story. The question is (if the value is connected to the price of STEEM), does it matter that the price has dropped for the time being? If left in our accounts, will the price not increase accordingly? I'm sure everyone knows already.. but this site is almost as confusing as blockchain in general to newbies.
I just noticed you saying that as well and it can’t be the price of Steem because it’s been happening ever since I say I started 6 months ago . It’s never 50/50 and I don’t understand where it goes either
If you do the price of Steem times the SP you get it will equal your payout. You aren't losing anything it's just in Steemit still the SBD is $1 and Steem's price is the market price.
Hope that helps :)
Dear @alexbeyman you are wrong in understanding the 50/50 payout.
First 50 directly with SBD denominations
Second 50 is in USD which is converted steem and given to you as SP
Thank you and Have a great day.
Thanks for bringing this up and also for everyone in the comments explaining it in detail. I understand steem dollars now.
I do have some more questions. What is the benefit of transferring Steem Dollars into savings? Can Steem tokens only be acquired through investment? The different forms this currency takes is mysterious.
Ya. That steem price is to dang high now.
Steemit gives you so much. I like your job. Following you.
Imagine what future users will get if the price of steem rises to 100 or 1.000$ :)
I thought it is a rule of steemit.
good information, thanks for sharing
Alex - @dragosroua talked about it & I think @sthitaprajna shared it in his comment...
+W+
I didn't understand that system too when I first came to the platform. But it's pretty simple, man.
50% is steem dollars and are equal to 1$(Even if SBD will be 10000$ it's still equal to 1$)
50% is steempower, like you bought steem on exchange for usd
I had this question too but apparently it's because, unlike SBD, SP gets paid on the current dollar value of Steem(and Steem is at a higher value now)
You have your answer already:
But i would like to add one thing: If you plan to power up, do NOT select the "Power up 100%" option right now. That way you would actually being losing money.
You go for 50%-50% and THEN buy steem with your SD on the internal market. Because of the price difference, you actually got more SP if you do it that way, buying steem first using SD and then powering up, than going directly on 100%
Steam prices are rising again today than yesterday ...
good news for all...
