Ok so this morning, I go on my usual routine to read my messages from steemit chat and this is what I get. At first I thought it was a mistake, but it isn't!!
First of all , I didnt even know @riverhead ran steemit chat, but I know him and he is a really amazing guy! I met him on my first steemit festival in a lift, so I don't really know what happened and why he was fired! But can we please bring him back and get the steemit chat back up too?
Also I didnt know that top 20 witnesses get paid so much! wow :O
The Steem blockchain is run by paid witnesses. As many know witness positions are highly coveted as pay at current prices is around $200,000 - $500,000+ per year versus around $50k - $90k for the 21st position and dropping sharply after that. There is a HUGE difference between the top 20 and backup witnesses. As @klye mentioned the other day, "These are the rockstars of witnesses".
I kinda want to become a witness now :P hahah just kidding!
I see that @riverhead has been moved to place 23, so I strongly recommend you vote for him. Some names in the top 20 I recognise and I know what they bring to the community, others I don't. But it is because I dont know them personally!
Sooo I guess it is up to @followbtcnews to get the steemit chat back working?

4 days ago @riverhead posted this saying he was done managing steemit.chat which as he wrote is his main project for being a witness https://steemit.com/chat/@riverhead/steemit-chat-migrating-to-new-management.
After posting this announcement, several big voters removed witness votes which we can guess is because @riverhead shared this announcement ending his current project without suggesting any replacement project. @riverhead also removed his own witness vote which is a big one.
The I am fired message on steemit.chat is therefore confusing because it appears that @riverhead quit and even unvoted himself as a witness.
ok i see, yeah it said he was fired and that he wasn't appreciated, i guess we wont know for sure, oh well lets hope someone will make steemit chat work soon!
Ouch, thats too bad :( I used to go to the Steemit chat once a week or so and catch up with wathever people were into. Guess its now just the Discord chats (MinnowSupport, MinnowBooster, etc)

Well steemitchat was nice....was it worth $500,000? Probably not.
Honestly what I have seen is that witnesses while not only important are actually ESSENTIAL to the steem blockchain. No denying that. With that being said I think they are ALL over paid. For what they do (Steemit chat for example) that is NOT a $500,000 operation...... Nor are ANY of the operations I see witnesses doing....
So Yes i hope chat comes back on but no its not worth $500,000 we can use FB or Discord for FREE........
Yeah, there are many options for running chat rooms online for free or very close to free. An online search for "free chat rooms for my site" yields a variety of interesting results. But Discord is probably the way to go for this.
yeah i know what you mean, its true.... i guess most of them in top 20 are overpaid massively!!
Why would they even do that.. Steemchat is obviously an integral part of steemit, whatever the issue is, i hope it is resolved.

Hey could you please tell what is a witness and how do you become one? Just upgrading my steemit knowledge as a newbie :)
Becoming a witness is a huge objective. First off you need to be sort of popular on Steemit since the witness position requires votes. There is also a very technical requirement involved as well, as witnesses kind of operate as nodes (like the Bitcoin nodes) that keep the platform stable and secure. It also involves learning many commands that can be issued to the system to achieve different things.

They are kind of "server admins" around here. They also help maintain the STEEM blockchain stable and working.

It's funny they said 'fired' while like last week i read an interview from the guy saying he stepped away or down. Whatever it is, i remembered saying he left just when i was about to register on Steemit chat. Witnesses get paid but i really didn't know it was that much too, but they keep the system running smoothly for us anyway. Don't worry, i will look you up when i registered and it is back running. Haha🙈

I didn't realise @riverhead ran Chat either and was really surprised to see this message when trying to log on yesterday. I'm glad you say he's a nice guy, and I'll be doing what I can to support him, and hopefully he'll get his position back... he was doing a good job, I love Chat!
