So last night I was browsing the bitcointalk marketplace last night and in the "Digital Goods" section for Invites/Accounts, I saw several SteemIt accounts for sale.
While this is probably old news for most of you, it was something I hadn't seen before.
Ok, so they're selling steemit accounts...that's legal,but....
In the hunt for spammers, the third screenshot there is obviously using a bot or just different IPs etc. to make new accounts. I'm somewhat ok with that.
My Issue, is the aged accounts with SteemPower...reputation...multiple posts...followers...other metrics
I think accounts like that, with upvoted posts and followers that trust their content, should not be sold outright. I think they should cash-out if anything. Aged and formerly active accounts with followers have a certain trust from their followers about the content they post and that gets upvoted.
To sell those accounts themselves though...seems to be an easy way to spam/tricky fellow Steemians who may not know the ownership of the account has changed. What may have been formerly good advice and good posts may now be used by whoever wants to post junk or trickery to the followers of those accounts...and they might be accepted with the same merit as the original owner...which could lead to some bad things around this place.
Just my .02, I'm really more curious about what you guys think of it and if it's problematic what we as a community might be able to do about it.
Thanks for reading and steem on!
Very interesting . I guess this argued in favor of a shorter lockup for steem power. However the reputation, joined date and followers also have value
@androsform got you a $1.64 @minnowbooster upgoat, nice! (Image: pixabay.com)

Crypto is about deregulation. Steemit has tied its crypto to this platform perhaps unfortunately or maybe it is the next big thing?. Regardless a steemit account should be seen as a form of crypto although posting and commenting may seem like personal actions, they are for many monetary actions. They should be able to sell it if they should please.
Agreed. Even getting an account to say... 32 reputation takes a bit of time. If they want to sell that reputation for quick cash then whatever... It's obviously a bad long term call, seeing the value of some accounts, but the free market allows for people to make bad decisions.
i agree with you both, in-terms of the "should be able to"...but isn't it an issue of the value of the community itself when spammers buy accounts with lots of followers and influence? that was moeso my question.
Seems kind of pointless to me, it seems easy to just create an account lol
So interesting. Need to weed out these bots from making the content and community aspects of this site on point.
If we are bogged down by bots and currency grinding this place is as good as dead.

This is some interesting read.
We are still in beta version and people are selling their accounts. When it will go live, this will happen more frequently like whatapp, Twitter, ... This is something you cannot prevent unfortunately.
The business side of it as @nedspeaks says is dominant.
Following for more good reads. Cheers!
The bigger the platform gets, the higher this rush for monetization.
That being said I'm selling this account for 1000 usd.
Just wow.
Good Luck! This post was resteemed by @resteembot!

wow good find.
its not the communtiys problem.its going to be a huge problem for steemit.
goverments may seize steemit when the first account does something bad.
its all about know your customer now.if they don't bring in a know your customer verify check say every 3 months,it could come back to bite them in the ass.if they show they been banning sold accounts and seizing the steem on them.may be donating it to a good cause.should cover steemit.
I wouldn't touch them. should be easy to have checks in place.then boom you lost all that money you just spent on buying that account.no different to banning game account that are sold.
Haha holy crap
I think the reason why they're selling their steemit account is having problem of thinking what they supposed to post or what content they're going to build with high potential of eye catching thoughts. Cuz nowadays steemit is really like a jungle it's easy to go in but hard to escape because of too much obstacles.
An interesting idea, one person could have multiple account and just up vote/resteem articles between the accounts they own, and grow their own SP.
ban ban ban :v
So is it possible to sell account at steemit, thats interesting but considering my sp mine is for sale now, want to buy reply and follow @nwagod4
Dont have much to say. I cant sell my steemit account coz i know the worth.
Selling an account that has had it's merit in the past to a spammer won't last long if the posts become crap, so I am really not worried about that...
Its all about trust, you gain followers because of the trust. One thing which I have seen in recent times is, the award for each post is going down day by day. Might be some people are thinking other way round that if now then never.
Ya everything is being sold. Accounts, bots, resteems, upvotes and even delegations worth 484,000 SP. Steemit has truly become a flourishing marketplace, LOL.
