Is there something WRONG with the Payout amount calculation before the payout moment. BIG difference between the two

in #steemit8 years ago

I first noticed this on some of my posts but I've also just checked 2 posts that have just paid out.

What happens is this:

  • your post gets upvoted and stuff and you can see an amount based on the votes:
    Imgur
  • When when the Payout executes the amount is kind of way less than before:
    Imgur

What gives? Where did the 2k go??

Case no. 2, lower Payout amount:

  • Before the payout
    Imgur
  • After the Payout
    Imgur

I'm not saying that the calculations are wrong but how can they be right? Shouldn't they be matched or at least within <2-3% margin for error?

Maybe @steemit needs to have a look at the calculation algorithm that forecasts the Payout amount as it may be overestimating it, getting ppl's hope up and then blowing off steem at the end (nice pun ha?)

PS. I was also one of the people who upvoted @xeroc's post (the 44k one above) and got paid exactly zero reward. I also happened to upvote some posts the past couple days as an early adopter, posts that got to over 1000$ in value and also got zilch. It could be that if my share would have been 0.00000001 (<= random low number) based on my low SP and the others' high SP, there isn't any micropayment for me in the end. Kind of killing the motivation a bit I guess.

Anyone have any ideas on the above?

Sort:

Because 25% of your post value goes to curators (the accounts that upvoted your post) Then what remains is split in SBD (Steem Dollars) and SP (steem power)

PS I Agree that this is super confusing !!! They should fix it and show us independently what exactly the poster will get and what the curators before the pay out's happen... That should be very easy to implement... When mouse over : show what curators get, when not, show what the poster gets!

PS2 I opened an issue on github since I think it really very important to change ASAP !
https://github.com/steemit/steem/issues/212

25 % goes to the curators!

That is true but the Payout there is the total amount paid to everyone (author and curators). % differ from post to post as you can see in the screenshots I posted so it's not that.

i understand that most of the rewards goes to the early responders, therefore if you read posts you are interested in rather than tactically vote and reply, then you may hit on large payment articles every once in a while, but dont just look at the site for payments, look at it that you get to read and participate in a great site and social media platform.

I completely agree with you and I'm definitely not on Steemit for the money as my primary. I'm sorry if it mislead to that in my post in any way but this is not a post asking why I'm getting paid low or not paid at all. This is a post that highlights a potential error in the calculation algorithm for the Payout amounts. Something that I see as a bug and that obviously needs to be remedied if it is indeed a bug.
