RE: The sponsorship model for advertising on Steemit

in #steemit8 years ago

Good thoughts on this.
Something needs to be set up. Right now a user could advertise manually, which isn't a bad idea. I've posted affiliate links, but paid advertising is always better. It can be tough to avoid getting spammy with affiliate links too.
Banners on the side (column) would work too. Either Steemit could contract with paid advertisers, then set up an algorithm that pays users according to views (upvotes could be subject to too much abuse, IMO), with bonuses for click-throughs.
The area in our user header should be our own though, as the internal content should be. A tool to put whatever we want in the header would be best, in case we simply want to put our own logo there for whatever reason.
By having consistency in the shell the site would be more intuitive and easier for visitors to navigate.
Some of these features will be privately available anyway, by using platforms such as @greymass' Reprint or some of the WordPress tools folks have been working on. I suspect that eventually there will be hundreds/thousands of sites integrated with Steemit seamlessly, so articles can be visited on Steemit or on their own domain, with comments, upvotes, etc., all complementary and interconnected.

Great points. The location for badges doesn't have to be the user header it is only a suggestion.

Right. All sorts of options and I'm just brainstorming on top of your idea.
I'd like to see the ability to put in an image on the left side to represent me, whether it's an avatar, logo or whatever, with my stats under it. Then, to the right, could be a banner area for sponsors like you mention, or other advertisements. It's pretty standard and maybe there's a better way.
I like the idea of being able to personalize our blogs a bit though.
But this might be kinda moot too, if everyone is posting on their own platforms/themes. Eventually someone might click on https://steemit.com/@thecryptofiend and end up on http://thecryptofiend.com. :)

Me too. I think the avatars and customisation are on the roadmap.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot - thanks for the puppy!!

You're welcome. This one has such cute little paws:)
