What Advice Would You Give To A Beginner On Steemit?

in #steemit7 years ago

I've been a blogger since 6 years, and there have been a couple principles I follow while I produce articles, and market them so I can reach more people.

However, I'm very new to Steem and I'm wondering if there are interesting secrets of becoming a Steem Power User.

If you can share your experiences and advice in the comments section, a lot of new Steemers like me can gain value from Steem faster. I believe the more success stories this platform creates, the faster it will go mainstream.

I feel very lucky to be a part of the very early days of this community. I hope to become a very active user!

Original content is well rewarded here. I have found that timely, well written comments about subjects you are passionate about gets a good deal of attention. Also, it is easy to get sucked in to the time vacuum. But above all, have fun!

Don't dream it, Steem It!

Content is king :D

But I don't do a lot of comments, I should definitely start to do that more often. Thank you for you advice!

I'm a new user here too, but slowly growing.

Welcome to the community. I think one thing to keep in mind about Steemit is that we ARE a community and most of us are looking out for the betterment of the community as a whole.

To reply to your more specific mention of Steem Power... One interesting thing is that you can upvote yourself. However, ONLY upvoting your own posts wouldn't be the way to go if you want Steemit to succeed as a community. Also... you would end up benefiting in the long run by "spreading the love", I believe.

I have also read many posts regarding the Power Up option and 50/50 option for payouts on your post. I read that 50/50 ends up being more of a payout...however you may want to research that and see if that's still true. I am only 90% sure.

There are plenty of quality posts on here explaining the details of it all.

I don't really understand this 50/50 stuff. Can you explain that more precisely please. I'm sure most beginners don't understand Steem Power, and the payout option.

Thanks in advance!

Go up top to "Submit a Story". In the bottom right of your post editor, you will see a "Rewards Option:"

That is what I'm talking about. You can select from 3 options.
50/50 - this pays you half in Steem power and half in STEEM dollars
Power Up - this puts all your rewards into Steem power
Decline Payout - This will make it so you get no payout from your post

What I read before is you'll get more Steem power if you take 50/50 then convert your STEEM dollars into Steem power on your own.

Another thing to take into consideration is STEEM dollars are liquid. Steem power is not. Steem power takes some time to power down, so it is sort of locked into the system for a time. Holding Steem power will help you earn more. But holding STEEM Dollars will NOT help you earn more.

Since I am just a little guy, I keep almost everything in Steem power.

I too am new to the community, and this comment was super helpful for understanding the payout stuff! Thank you boat loads!

I'm sure i read somewhere that Steem power is locked in for 2 years but i'm not certain on that. I'm also new so may be getting my wires crossed.

The only advice I have is Steemit is like this once you get hooked!

That doesn't seem like an advice, it's just a fact :D

I have been diligently commenting, writing quality (research based) content and have been upvoting and all the good advice...however, my curation has not grown a single point - can someone PLEASE help me to figure this mystery? I will really appreciate it...(who knows - I may even share some of the curation reward with those that help me!)...

Any real-life-useful information is greatly appreciated.

that must be real frustrating.
Some simple tips:

  1. dont vote before 4 minutes
  2. dont vote after 29 minutes
  3. dont vote if more than 10 people have voted
  4. always check the new section
  5. always check your feed

hope that helps!

Thank you!

It seems counterintuitive that my voting should depend on how soon I come across good post!

Im sure they do this to prevent people from spamming upvotes on all new articles and to encourage people to find new content that needs the upvotes

post original content, have fun, and POWER UP!

My best advice is to see how you can help as many Steemians as you can. In this way you can build your presence here and attract more followers. For more tips just head to my profile.

I decided to gather some helpful article archives in order to be helpful to many Steemians, after your post. Thank you so much!

Power up before it hits 10$!!!

Why is that? What happens at $10?

Every time the price of steem goes up, it makes it harder to purchase! So if you want to get steem power (I highly recommend at least making it to the second stage of user-- the yellow fish), you need to buy your steem asap before it becomes unaffordable! Think about this. The price of Steem used to be 10 CENTS! And now it's more like $1.25! So it's like 12.5 TIMES HARDER to get a good account on here. See what I mean now? Everybody needs to get 500 steem power which is I believe what you need to be a yellow fish.

Got it. Very clear explanation, thanks.

Glad to be of help!

Thx , nice to meet you.....
got a wote
