Have you ever made a post and receive great comments. Comments that you'll feel just deserves more than the amount from your full power upvote?
Commenting
Commenting is a crucial activity for someone starting out to engage with everyone. Heck, even the best authors are the most prolific commenters. As I pointed out in my post about the do and don't of a minnow, a good comment shows that you not only appreciate the post you've read, but you are willing to engage in a further discussion with the author in regards to the post content.
Personally, I always try to engage with every good comments someone took to write on my post. I appreciate it and the more comments I get, the happier I am. I don't mind if that someone my disagree with me. I'd rather have a healthy discussion in which I may be enlightened to new insights, rather than a low effort comment of "Nice post!".
With the recent Hard fork 19, my full powered upvote at 100% will net around 58 cents, Of course that is if i haven't voted anyone in the past few days. Not bad, considering a few weeks ago the best I can do is 3 cents.
But even then once in a while I come across such powerful comments by great people that I think even the best I can give isn't enough. Insightful, funny, heart-warming, tear-jerking, however it may be. Ones that resonates with me, touches my heart. The ones that I gave 100% upvote without a moments hesitation. And as we observed, net the most, 58 cents. I dont feel right awarding someone the theretical maximum of 58 cents when that person spent their precious time reading my content, understanding it, and take the time to reciprocate and reflect on my points and shed light to me on things related to what i talk about but may not know.
Imagine if there's just a way get that com mentor the renumeration he/she deserves.
Comment of the Day
I'd like to introduce you to Comment Of The Day. An initiative born of the ideas of @acidyo to reward awesome people for their awesome comments. Designed to let people come together and take a look at what other users nominate as the comment they feel are the best they've read that day.
You don't even need to actively participate. It's meant to be passive. Let me explain.
Everytime you come across a good comment, it doesn't matter if the comment is on your post or on someone else's. The only rule when it comes to selecting comments is that it can't be your own. Afterall, don't we all think we ourselves are Great? Wouldn't be just and fair now when we do that right? :P
Comment on the contest post (posted on regular intervals) your nomination, quote and link. Have everyone to take a look and see if other people agree that "hey, that's a bloody nice comment"
There's 5 slots for each contest for winners. "Champion" all the way to 5th place. Owh, and by the way if your nomination won you get a cut of the win too. So there's that.
Why should you reward your commenters
Asides from the obvious incentive (Direct power-up to you, a fast-track SP building) to nominate and vote for the best comment. There may be a few hidden benefits. For example:
Engagement
If you commented on someone's post and suddenly realized he/she nominated your comment as the best, wouldn't you love it? Rewarding your commenters in that way persuades them to come back to your future posts for more. It lets them know that you appreciate their engagement. Sure you always give full upvotes, maybe.. sometimes.. But it never hurts to go extra right?
Community
It's nice for your commenters to know that you're looking out for them. People always return favours, It might just be that in the future, your good comments will be given more attention because you've first given attention to others.
Encouraging the culture of good comments
Aren't you tired of "nice post"s? I am.. And on a particularly good day commenters like these will make me go on a hunt to find out if the account is in fact human or bots. If it's a bot that brings no value to the platform, im heading to #abuse
channel over at Steem.chat. And so on the other extreme. I do my very best to reward people who takes the time to make sure their post is engaging, thought-provoking, heart-warming, ones that has a point, and a good one.
To wrap things up
A dolphin or whale vote on a comment will make someone's week. But like you and me, our votes don't count for much unfortunately... for now. Nominating good comments in CotD contest may present as a gesture of goodwill and a chance to sort of "give them a whale or dolphin vote". I assure you it feels nice. from my experience, being rewarded in that way encourages me to write better comments because i know the post writer appreciates it. Afterall, we're all about good content here.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this information post. You can search my wall for the latest Comment of the Day contest and follow the instructions there. The contest is always ongoing and there is at least 2 opportunities for entry each week. It wont take you long, and you may find that it pays in the long term..
I'm @awesomianist
Stay Awesome.
You just got my attention, i'm following you now . i m one of the commentors who just commented like "nice post" , "awesome post" now you just open my mind. i don't know good english but i will try my best to comment like a boss that will get attention and poeple love to upvote my comment too. thank you man for such a great post :)
Hi @Aitssam,
my wife has the same problem but at least for Spanish, Google translate has become awesome. Unexpected side benefit is that her English is improving a lot. Language is a tool, you need to find something to use it for. Writing comments on stuff that interests you actually is great to improve your English!
Thank you :)
ALRIGHT!
Nothing wrong if you see where you were mistaken and is willing to up your game! Don't worry with the English, your language is perfectly fine in your comment.
It's more than that upvote my friend. When people constantly see you around with top-tier comments, they will be interested in who you are. And if you piqued enough interest, not only is your comment getting upvotes, your post are getting browsed at too!
Isnt that the end game?
Your comment boost up me . Thank you again :)
Agree, I think commenters should be rewarded. I am trying an experiment in July where I share ALL my SBD's earned with a good commenter and a good resteemer (who gives a good reason why, no blind re steems)
I explain why I do this here:
https://steemit.com/steemit/@the-traveller/big-pay-out-and-some-lessons-learned-about-stimulating-comments-vs-payoff-about-randowhale
Very interesting experiment.
I am a stout supporter of the Idea Economy and the Attention Economy. What you are doing is definitely going to spur engagement and encourage discussion.
Do quote some outstanding comments you stumbled upon so far in your posts and we can help each other. Afterall I feel competition is obsolete in this new economy. Profit is found more in cooperation rather than competition.
Good point, I should definitely add that as a "final thoughts" section!
This one and the one before had really awesome comments and a decent pot.
But with the recent price drops, it seems people also stopped engaging...
The last few articles don't seem to get any traction whatsoever.
I hope the price stays low for a while so people who are coming for the content aspect will allow the platform and discussions on it to mature, crowing out all the spam-for-upvotes.
I think once in a while a low price period might actually be quite healthy long term for the platform and quality posters.
For my experiment it will be interesting to see if the size of the pot makes any difference or people do it for the recognition...
It is these kind of engagements that motivate and allow minnows to rise to the challenge. I believe commenting is just as important as posting and upvoting. It is the smile that comes with a pay.
Looking at http://steem.supply my comment rewards currently make up over 60%.
If one wants to evaluate the quality of a follower, check the accounts engagement. Comments that add value to a post give Steemit its vibrant colors...
[globocop currently on the voting pause bench]
engagement is so important. You are absolutely right on point.
thanks for the Steem.supply link!
I actually have the same experience, comments so far paid better than articles. I think especially if you are new it is a good strategy to comment and raise interest in your profile. It is critical for steemit to grow as a platform to have good comments. Upvotes don't do much to improve content on Steemit. I wish the reward algorythm took the comment to upvote ratio in account for the author reward share. 500 upvotes and 4 comments is very fishy
and is probably a gamed post with robovotes self voting etc.
Entirely agree. cc: @ned @aggroed
It's through comments that we build a value-follow ship.
Which gives me an idea for today's @globocop post...
Have a good weekend.
-ch @globocop
Great advice. Thanks.
Now if I can just wait and get my voting power back up again.
It's still under 70%
You dont need to wait for anything! just quote the comments over at Comment of the Day (check my previous post) and you stand a chance to reward your commenter way beyond your 1 upvote!
Hey,
I wanted to say thank you!
I just realised you sent me over 4 SBD, and now I am wondering why I got those from you?
Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining or anything, it was just unexpected, just when my posts aren't doing well at all.
🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗😊😊😊😊😊😃😃😃
Followed and upvoted with my 2 cents 🙂
Very interesting!
Congratulations!
You know its kismet, that I found you just now because I just got the best comment ever from a newbie and all I can give her is a penny, I mean reading her comment I was on cloud nine and still am! That comment contest can it be done on a phone I don't have a computer I'm pretty ignorant right now about how to do all those things. I'm going to go read up on it and see if I understand, your steem was very helpful to me and I'm going to be reading your other steems to learn more, thank you thank you thank you! Peace love and prosperity to you and yours😀😀😊😊
Funny
brilliant
this way the you got extra brain power on the topic of the post
i really like it
Thanks for liking my information post
brain power?
I like to know what do you mean by..
i mean that you engage more people to think about the topic in greater depth if you give them incentive to do so... so you get more brains with different view points and available information on the subject that can further develop the content. (a new content based socratic method)
Thanks for the suggestions. Need every bit of help to swim upsteem! 🐓🐓
