Let’s be honest – the grand majority of us joined Steemit to get rich quick.
Unfortunately, the grand majority of us soon realized that getting rich quick wasn’t going to happen, at least not without some time and effort.
Unfortunately, even in the long term, most of us won’t see major returns on our work. We’re surrounded by trending posts telling you about how to cash out, or showcasing trips taken off Steemit revenue. But consider this – the folks saying Steemit pays big are the ones who have been paid big. This is enough to inspire most people to keep posting. But look at it this way – if a successful actor tells you to follow your dreams and that anyone can be successful with enough hard work, it’s because they were very lucky in getting there! Even with hard work, it takes a lot of luck to achieve our loftiest of goals. If you don’t believe me, take it from comedian Bo Burnham:
Now, before you grab your pitchforks and torches, let me finish!
I’m not saying I don’t like steemit. I do like steemit. I’m just saying a lot of us came into it for the wrong reasons –
But that doesn’t mean we can’t stay for the right reasons!
Steemit is about creating and curating content for rewards. But at the same time, it isn’t just about the rewards. The rewards for uptucks are great, but they’ve kickstarted something new – a better form of social media. Think about it, you can make much better friendships here because they all start with a level of honesty much higher than usual – how much of what you post here would you put on Facebook, for example? If you start off with a higher level of trust, then a community can grow much closer.
That’s another thing Steemit has going for it – its friendly community. The people here are very welcoming, whether saying hello on your #introduceyourself post, or offering interesting points of views on an academic or social discussion, it seems the Steemers are always polite and friendly, even when having opposing views. We’re all in this together, so why make enemies?
That’s really the heart of it – we’re all in this together. It’s a bit of a collectivist mindset, in that we’re all interested in improving the platform and in turn helping others get rich, so that we can all get rich together. So don’t get down when your post doesn’t shoot to the top of trending, enjoy the likes and comments that it brings. Who knows, if one of your followers gets lucky, maybe they’ll be able to help you out in the future. We can’t all be rich, but that doesn’t mean we can’t gain some friends in the process.
Steemit – join for the money, stay for the people!
I've been harping on this since I joined. Community building through commenting on articles you enjoy is the easiest way to get rewarded. The Whales are reading the comments and you will be surprised how many times you will be rewarded for interacting with other users in the comment threads. It can be argued that commenting is just as important as creating content.
I agree, I see it as just another facet of curating. From my early observations, it can be just as lucrative to have a great comment on a great article. Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)
@cryptobarry, hit the nail on the head. Cheers
Yeh, this was good. I joined because I wanted a decentralized Facebook, the currency aspect is just a small plus and a good management process.
I actually heard about it through a Yahoo Finance article, and immediately thought all my money troubles were over. Like my post says though, I joined for the money and stayed for the people :) I'll try to give your article a read later, I'm packing at the moment
More of my thoughts on this, if your interested.
Great article, i joined because my friend said i should check it out, but I do love the people and community here :)) Up voted! Alla
I did the same as your friend haha, as soon as I registered I was already messaging a friend telling her to join. Thanks for sharing and up voting :)
This is my first day, so still experimenting, but this rings true for me. The payouts seemed too high to be sustainable but I think I was just seeing the most popular ones which are not representative of the whole.
Yep high payouts are rare, even those who get high payouts often have articles that go mostly unseen. It's all part of the process, just have to learn to make it enjoyable regardless. Thanks for your input :)
Perhaps it is worth looking after philosophy of SteemPower and weight of a vote? The weight of vote of 1 account has to be always equal to 1 dollar. But each subsequent vote reduces vote cost. So 100% of Voting power = $1, 80% = $0,8 and so on. Speed of restoration from 0 to 1 depends on quantity of STEEM POWER — 10 steem power restore, voice weight completely in 1 week, 1.000.000 steem power in 10 seconds. It would bring much more balance in long-term prospect. Also would solve a problem, whales, dolphins and gudgeons.
I don't think this would be a good idea because it would result in mass inflation. Right now, the power lies with a few but regardless the same final amount currency is distributed on a daily basis. Even small votes count still - it's just not worth much. And why should it? Your vote will be worth more once you prove your content - i.e. Get votes from whales. But as the article states, this won't happen for everyone, which is fine. Thanks for the input though! :)
For example, the cumulative effect from voting of these three accounts @itsascam, @steemroller, @steemed one “whale” is equal to $ 500.
Right?
How many votes of users with account balance - $ 100 are required in order the author’s post will get the same value?
I'm not good at math, but I get about 261780 votes of users.
1 ≥ 261780.
you can check here: http://www.steemdollar.com/dollar_per_vote.php?name=
It is worth noting that 24,000 accounts have less than $ 10 in their accounts. You consider such distribution fair? 2 500 000 people with balance of the account as yours will be required to give to the author of $500.
I appreciate that you've got such a strong interest in this topic. Like I said, I don't think the money distribution is any problem at the moment. Another thing to consider is money allocation in the real world which is just as lopsided. Again, thanks for offering your perspective :)
Although on a personal level I didn't join Steemit to "get rich quick." I love what you said in your post and gave you an upvote.
What excited me about Steemit is getting at least some reward for work created as a content creator. Over the years it seems creators and writers have been expected to accept that we don't deserve to be rewarded for our work, time and efforts. I truly hope Steemit is the game changer in this regards.
I totally agree with you. That's why I invited my friend @jacqueline.ohara because I know she loves to write but wasn't seeing any reward before. I'm glad you enjoyed the article :)
@inboundinken I'd love to get your thoughts on this!
@cryptogee I've put out a bunch more content since we were last in contact, I'd love to hear what you think :)
I agree, not everyone immediately turns to earn!
I'm glad you liked the article! Thanks for sharing :)
Thank you! I especially liked your slogan "Steemit – join for the money, stay for the people!" :)
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it :)
Well written, I liked this. We are all in it together
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!
Gladly, steemit was not advertised to me as "go there make noney blogging" but as "here go read the whitepaper decentralised network blockchain facebook reddit" (in /r/conspiracy).
I was a bit surprised at the unrealistically high payouts on the trending page, but still did not expect to receive much myself after lurking for a few days before introducing myself a minute before the hack shut down Steemit.
Some feel much betrayed, and rightfully so, because they were given a promise Steem never made and can't possibly keep and this is making a lot of noise atm.
We should not be partying hard because $$$!!!, but because this community is awesome, the code open source, the blockchain uncensorable and the mods nonexistent. Freezed Peaches!
Haha I like your point of view, glad you found my post :) and I agree. I joined after the hack though so don't know much about that
Up'd for the Bo Burnham reference alone.
Hahaha thanks! He's my second favorite comedian behind Aziz Ansari
