It's summer vacation time, and sometimes being short staffed is not so much fun. I am working the hardest in the summer because that's when the other workers take their time off. This often leaves me aching and tired as I don't just fulfill my own duties. Please don't take this as a moan or groan post; as I am very great-full to be employed.
I'm actually on my break right now, and decided to blog rather then sit in-front of something that will strictly waste my time. I have gotten to the maturity point on Steemit to realize that anything I write here isn't a waste of time. It's very fulfilling even if I don't get many upvotes. So with my "extra" time I decided to look up what successful people do during their breaks. It worked out to be simple things, that if reminded we might all do more. Many people who run their lives productively are able to:
#5. Take Time Off: As ironic as how I started this blog post, actually relaxing your body and zoning out for a bit will help you get back to work refreshed. I know right now my body is sitting, and I might be flexing some brain power; but my body is resting. Successful people know when it’s time to take a break. Not taking time off actually reduces productivity levels. I find after a grueling day of labor, what I can produce dramatically slows down anyways so it's better to take a break.
#4. Eat Right: I am so guilty of doing this. In fact I only eat one meal a day; and it's after work. I can't say it's healthy at all but it's a habit I have been doing for decades. I will probably regret it, so maybe it's time to start packing a lunch. Swallowing a whole meal down quickly is also terrible for your body. This happens often in the modern world as break time doesn't always afford enough time to sit and eat properly. Successful people tend to adopt what nutritionists call “healthy eating habits”. This involves eating the right amount of food (not too much and not too less), eating the right kind of food. I am not going to detail what that meal should be; but I am sure you can look up what a quick snack or meal should be in order to keep you energetic and focused.
#3. Exercise: If you are at a desk job and you are sitting all day aside from the rare photo-copy, you are at risk for negative feedback to your body. A consistent desk-job over the years will eventually cause eye-strain, neck strain, and alignment issues in your back. That could lead to headaches! Not only that, but you are not burning any calories which increases your chance of weight gain. The solution is simple; move or do some stretches! If the space warrants it; maybe even do some YOGA or martial art Kata's (if it doesn't scare your co-workers away).
#2. : Be More Social: In this world, working hard leaves little time for loved ones or friends. Success at work can be largely dependent on success at home. You can even chat it up or network with your work colleagues. Unless you work alone, there is no 'i" in team. This can improve your chances of a pay-raise, or just getting an "in" with anyone who might be higher up. Remember, sometimes its not just about what you produce, but who you know. If you don't wish to focus on work; call or text a loved one or friend. Again to re-iterate your social life or family life is just as, or even more important than what you are doing for a living. This is not just my opinion, in fact many businesses assess an individual worker’s performance based on what the team says about them.
#1. Make Plans: Successful people should use their "extra" time to reflect on what you have done; and what you need to do later. This creates an atmosphere inside your head that can actually be calming and give you the feeling of control. One example of this is if you have a meeting later in the day and it is actually more productive to plan your timing for the meeting besides thinking about it after your break is over. Who needs the extra anxiety? Organizing your thoughts on timing and energy will give you great results.
Well, my break is over and I hope you enjoyed!
