We Need A Way Besides Steemit Chat To Correspond With Users Outside Of The Comment Box

Weekly Audio Podcast. If you are like me, you often see a fascinating post and have an idea or question for the poster that may not really benefit being in the comment section. Or you may simply wish to ask a user about an idea you have. @craig-grant recently downvoted my comment (rightly so, as it was not entirely dedicated to his article, but it got me thinking). By the way this is nothing against @craig-grant, I truly enjoy his content and the reason I was contacting him was to be a part of a podcast. Weekly Audio Podcast

I love to run ideas past great minds, but only being able to use the chat, and having many people not on it hurts some potential great projects from seeing the light of day.

Maybe someone could work on the following features to place directly into steemit:

  • An interface similar to facebook chat where messages can be sent back and forth in the steemit site
  • Abilty to ask for permission to talk to a user or add a group of people together in the same chat
  • Ability to block users from chatting or turn off visibility
  • Option to show if you are online or not
  • Notification sound and visible alert
  • Ability to send word documents, pictures etc.
  • I know many features are available in slack, but an easier interface directly at the bottom of the page will help new users immediately recognize how to use it, as most people have used the facebook chat service before.

This is a very brief post, but one that maybe others with similar frustrations can come together on and help form a solution to prevent spam in the comment section, which provides invaluable feedback to the posters and other commentors.

This is where the memo key will be used. Soon, there will be an interface for sending encrypted messages to other users via your standard public key cryptography.

That's what I am hoping for and would love to have users weigh in on what features they like. Will it be real time encrypted messages or do you have any further knowledge of what may come?

As easy as facebook

That will be awesome, but i wonder if chats could also be upvoted or made public to benefit others in some way. Facebook chat is nice, but i feel there is a potential to do something unbelievably cool. Idk what that may be, but there was a reason it wasnt rolled out yet, so hopefully it is being perfected as we chat now

I upvoted You

Not a helpful comment when it comes from a bot.

Hi Bendjmiller,
I´m missing the exact same features!

Do you think a Solution, to all these Problems, outside of Steemit would help already?
I know, it´s your wish to have it directly integrated into the Steemit.com Site - But since that will be the case, would an external Solution help you?
Would love to hear your thoughts on these Questions. :) !
I wish you well brother!

I would love that, but like the steemit chat available now, it will only be useful if every user has the ability to use it without signing up on another site. If I can't simply click on a user name and send a direct message (If they have that enabled) I don't think it will be as beneficial as possible. I'm sure many big changes will roll out, but at the same time 40k+ users coming together and brainstorming may come up with ideas that the great minds behind the scenes have not thought to implement. I'm more interested in being able to connect with other users in this way than a dollar amount at the end of this posting period. Just happy to see people taking the time to look and weigh in. I appreciate it. Best of luck to you, as I see you are new and making yourself known in the comment section. I'd advise to continue to do that and learn a bit from your favorite users and then create an awesome #introduceyourself post. Too many people try to jump right in and post (even great content) and become frustrated and think the system is rigged. You are gaining reputation right now which will be very valuable to you as you decide what type of topics you wish to post about and people will associate your name positively. Keep it up!

I dont think a "chat" type app would work on the chain... i think it would be too much load. I was thinking an iframe though that you project on the side ... its funny i think this is the second idea ive seen you come up with that im working on .

Haha that's awesome. And yes I am not familiar with programming on a blockchain, but a chat that overlays the bottom of the page would be awesome. I will wholeheartedly support your attempts to go forward with this and feel free to tag me in any posts you make about your progress. I originally thought about keeping ideas and working on them with a team, but I feel this is more of a github where everyone can benefit from little pieces and ideas from others. No one person is going to be able to develop and incredible program without input from everyone. I will follow you and hope our creativity brings us together again sooner than later!

True, the "log in" - aspect is painful ...
It´s indeed possible to create an application, which will allow its Users to chat and exchange - they way you described.
But the sign in and log in aspect will be a bummer ...

Anyway´s, I´ll continue thinking about it :D

Thank you Benjmiller, for such uplifting words !
I actually posted my first Blog- Post today :D
Such an amazing feeling, to see people even commenting!

I thought about making a grand #introduceyourself post, but as I mentioned in my Post, I decided to stay anonymous. I simply wanted to enjoy the freedom of expressing myself, without beeing scared of harming my Image.

Who knows, maybe I´ll go public one day :) !

Either way, I´m not here for making thousands of $. I just wanted to have a Voice.

I´m looking forward to your next Posts!
All the best,
Tramp

Glad to have more great minds that are willing to work their way up from the bottom. If I can help you out in any way feel free to ask. I know I benefited from others helping me out and some of those users would love to help, but are simply too busy. I am kind of a portly minnow at the moment, so I have a bit of time still to help others. By wanting to have a voice instead of wanting to make thousands of dollars you are already way above many who are just starting out. Being honest about yourself and in comments is critical to people continuing to listen to your voice.
