Hi steemians, for sometime now I have not been active and as a result my account has been dormant. My reason for this post is due to the fact that many new steemians have been complaining about their post not yielding enough upvotes and this is leading to a lot of discouragement to them. Also, some of them are complaining that they don't have what to write about( the so-called writers block). So this post is to encourage the minds of newbies and tell them little ways of surviving on steemit.

What to do to get upvotes as a newbie?
Five months ago I joined steemit and I got an upvote of $81 on my first post but after then I didn't make up to $0.5 upvote for my next 25 post. So I stopped writing on steemit and probably felt it was not the best place for me. After two months I stopped due to lack of encouragement. I was deeply discouraged. After 1 month, something great happened. Guess what? @astoldbyv told me she wanted to withdraw her 15sbd and I was like how on earth did you do that? Then I discovered the greatest thing that happened to me in steemit. As we go on you will know about.
Here are some of the ways to get upvotes
QUALITY POST
The number one rule in steemit concerning posts is upload quality post.
what is a quality post?
A quality post is a post that was well thought of and effort was put in making the post. A quality is a post that has sources from where things were extracted from. The thing about a quality post is that when readers are reading the post, it looks as if you are listening directly and being carried along.
Example of steemians who do quality post include @sweetsssj, @anomadsoul, @ejemai, @surpassinggoogle. If you look at these accounts, you will discover that they put their time into what they post.
JOIN A COMMUNITY
One of the reasons why most post another of money on their post are due to the fact that they belong to communities. This was the secret @astoldbyv told me which led me to where I could say that I was fairly comfortable as a Steemian. The importance of a community cannot be overemphasized. There are different communities on steemit. The communities on steemit includes:

Some communities require membership fee but the gain is more compared to the fee.
PARTICIPATE IN CONTESTS
Contests are competitions organized by top steemians on the network which help people to grow at a fast rate. This is one way to earn fast on steemit. There are some contest that go every week while some just come once.

Some other things you should know about your account..
- To avoid begging for upvotes in the future try to invest in steempower
- Join communities
- Post on different steemit affiliated sites like dtube, zappl, busy.org, utopian, dlive, dmania, dsound etc.
- Get loyal followers and upvote their stuff cos steemit is a place for growth. Grow and let others grow.
- Give appreciative comments because it is possible for you to earn more from a comment you give a whale than all your post for a week
- Try to attend meet-ups close to your location. This makes it look like *online meets offline
- In all socialize and add value to the overall community. Long live steemit
