Doesn't take a person longer than five minutes to realize that trending is a lot of the same people, and even worse writing or content. So what should we do, I don't have a total plan, but trending page could take out your own personal vote, then figure on how many votes you get?
Also the drama being posted on the front page, a lot people immediately see that, and do not want to put money on a platform where Bullies exist. I am waiting for Ned to get some pro football players to come on here and talk to us about bulling, maybe Mr. Incongnito
The Whales are almost like Politicians, case a lot of hoopla, but still make a ton of money. They don't even see that they are hurting themselves by being a drag on the platform and stunting growth.
We should have a timeout corner for them, that is probably the only thing they would understand.
I don't spend any time on the trending page anymore. I hang out in the hot section but like you said anything going on in trending is just futility. -@bozz
Self-upvotes shouldn't count. There isn't much value in a platform curated by bank account size. But self voting is often more rewarding, so it gives whales an advantage while also disincentivizing everyone's use of their limited vote power on less rewarding real curation.
Promotion bots make the problem worse. I know they're seen as a way for minnows to compete with whales, but instead they just get used by whales on a larger scale than minnows can afford, further increasing the self-promotion disparity.
The main change needed to make fixing these things possible, is allowing each steemit account to have multiple sub-channels. Once this is implemented, we could reasonably start discouraging multiple accounts.
Both self-upvoting and promotion bots directly counter the very idea of this platform. But until the community consensus comes around on this, and until proper functionality is added to allow people to rely on a single account, I will continue to upvote my own posts and use promotion services to compete.
Support you! I liked what I read...you worked well.... Good luck in future!
Well stated sir!!! I am now at the ripe old age of 22 days here on steemit. I quickly learned my place and realized that if I was gonna have any chance at survival I was going to have to work my ass off. I have no problem with that and it’s something I have always been willing to do. Especially when the idea is so worthwhile. Steemit is a playroom with so much amazing potential. You can see that as soon as you set foot here. It is very hard to get traction with the sheer numbers of posts let alone the whale dominance. There are some amazing articles on the trending page that certainly deserve to be there but if you take a close look there is also some content that makes you wonder how? It’s a great big sea and whales will be whales but it would be nice if all the minnows didn’t get swallowed up. I honk the difficult part is there are some minnows buatingbass to produce quality content and it get swept under the rug in a millisecond. New posts are gone before they are even posted and some of them have excellent content. Then you jump on over to the trending section and see what we all see. Swim hard minnows.. swim hard.
I don't bother with trending. Un-curatable and no content of interest. It's mostly trash with a huge payout.
I think that's a good idea! I'll never be featured on that part of Steemit.
I'm plankton on here, but I like for my opinions to matter too. I do wish they could change some things. The whales are making gobs of money! I don't think a crap post should be worth $$$$. They do take away from everyone else.
My second post after my introduction post was on trending and earned me triple digit . Now with more followers and steem power, i am never on trending again.
Haha! I have to applaud anyone who references Richie Incognito in their post! I agree with @bozz. I don't even look at the trending section anymore. The posts stay on trending for days! I like the Hot section. The posts in the Hot section are better curated, or if they aren't, at least they drop out fast!
Ya, I was wondering if anyone would catch that.
You all are right. The trending section is infested with the same people or sometimes the same type of content. Even though it could or not be a good post, it removes the chance for good bloggers to have a space. We all deserve a space, no matter how tiny it could be, but many good choices and post are being left behind due to some whales, and it's not quite fair at all
Hey @bgram13
I would like to add a quote here , that may be helpful to bloggers on this platform;
Why You Should Upvote Comments!!!!
I've noticed alot of people doesnt reward their followers, and their commenters on here.
It's a shame.
When someone takes the time to not only read your post but to leave a comment. Even throwing your small vote their way does a lot of great things...
They are More Likely To Follow You
I'm not saying you should upvote every single comment you get. I try and look for those that I feel provide value to the post. When they see that you upvoted their comment and they will be rewarded as a result. This encourages them to follow you; Then you'll have a regular on your post!
You can grow your followers so that they can grow you;
If they choose to keep their Steem in their account, They may power it up. If you continuously are upvoting their great comments, then they will steadily grow overtime. Their vote will be worth even more, and they'll be able to upvote you, The upvotes you gave them helps them grow, so they have more power on the platform.
This isn't a tit-for-tat scheme. You wipe out your Steemit tools and resources with "thank you" votes. Only quality replies, deemed so by the author or others, should be upvoted.
Good post!

very good post!
Such a joke is it? haha. The other day I saw a whale post about increasing reputation and upvoted themselve to increase so increase reputation without content worthy of trending.
They might as well resort to automated posts, with self upvotes .
Such a shame!
@bigram13 (68) speaking as a noob it seems as though there are two different kinds of whales 1 serves the network and recycles the value that the network gives to them back as an investment in the network creating a feedback loop that makes the network and everything on the network stronger emoji Muscle Man pulling train up a hill on train tracks, the other kind of whale is more of a shark and serves itself and its own appetite and rarely has we in its dialogue this type of whale sees Plankton and small fish as their personal Storehouse of food and never expects to be challenged or eaten themselves emoji ocean wave with swarm of killer sharks circling around the whirlpool💡💥🔔
wow wonderful photo
This is not a photography post. You would've noticed if you actually opened and read the post.
I will say that a lot of the posts on the trending section are decent quality with lots of work put into it- but I get a little sick of it too. I can’t read the same stuff from the same people all the time!
I spend hours writing my posts and they don’t land in the trending section. I guess it’s just one upvote at a time until I earn myself large fish status
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they were all working together to manipulate the price, so they can get a bigger cut of the pie lol
But I feel like many of the new users look less at the content and more at the potential post rewards lol
I am starting to wonder how to find content that I actually like...... I stay on the Hot pages, but so much of what is here is feeling either regurgitated or low quality. I followed too many people at the beginning just because they upvoted me, so that is one problem. But also, YES the entire Trending page just sucks....
I always hoped to be on the trending section. But it really is very dificult to land a spot there. But I wont give up. I will strive hard to be noticed. This is truly an eye opener @bigram13 Thanks....
