I must admit I was a little leery when my sons started talking about Steemit, for a few reasons. It was the social platform aspect even more than the intangible currency that made me hesitate. You see, I separated from Facebook over a year ago and I believe divorce is inevitable. I don’t think Facebook is bad, it just wasn’t good for me. Irreconcilable differences. Facebook was demanding more and more of my time. So naturally I have to ask myself if I am willing to commit to something that appears to be just as time consuming considering how thin I’m spread right now. We’ll just have to see.
My addiction to Facebook was games. I love games. Computer games, game apps, standalone gaming platforms, even board and card games. No matter how big the capacity is on each new phone I get, I seem to fill it with games. Games keep my mind sharp and my reflexes quick. Stop laughing, it’s true! Facebook offered a gluttony of games and even let you buy cute, fun things in each game.
My irritation with Facebook was the politics, the drama, and the reposting of horrifying photos that people wanted you to share to stop the horrifying photos. Yeah, how about that vicious cycle.
My separation from Facebook came when I realized, like any addict, that my life was being controlled by my addiction. It’s the first thing I did in the morning, I checked it on my phone at work, it’s the first thing I did when I came home and on through the night. I was getting 2-5 hours of sleep each night. I never had time to explore Instagram, Twitter, or any other form of Social Media. If you’re nodding your head in agreement, stop the madness now. Deactivating my Facebook account was a really good choice for me. I thought I’d have some kind of withdrawal, but I really didn’t. It’s been over a year, so I think I’m ready to actually delete the account. I don’t anticipate jumping back into it.
I can see now how Steemit will be different. It’s knowledge, it’s art, it’s humor, it’s whatever I want it to be. How nice. How exciting! I don’t have to worry about crops dying, digital pets leaving, people being mad because I didn’t send a daily gift.
So here we go Steemit, I’m ready for another serious commitment as long as you are flexible, supportive, and respectful of my time (or lack thereof) since school starts again in a few days. I promise not to compare you to Facebook.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post. It's my first post after the introduction post. So I suppose that would make it officially my second post.

Hi Bonni,
I laughed at your addiction confession, because we have all been there. I still love Facebook, I enjoy the pictures and personal stories of my friends and family and SteemIt doesn't really offer that. . Yet.
I also love SteemIt, and I try to use it as a natural social media site. I don't work on each post being a masterpiece after all Social Media was meant to be fun.
I hope SteemIt makes your entertainment cut.
Facebook still works for my husband as well @whatsup because his family is scattered all over the place.
Good info, thanks for posting.
I'd like to mention one other reason to dump facebook.
Its a "government" spy platform, do we really want to hand over our personal info to this gang of thieves?
Seems like a very foolish thing to do!
It's a bummer that I can't play some of my game apps because you have to have a Facebook account to play! Thanks @stfsteemship!
i've also divorced several social media for steemit... lol
Hahaha, at least there are two of us @gbenga!
yea.. we journey together.... :)
Sorry for the divorce but i'm rest assure because you have a pre-nup with steemit :)
Exactly @digital-entrep!
A belated welcome to steemit @bonni - I totally understand the Facebook divorce: we parted ways last month. I grew tired of the drama too and of the narcissistic nature of it all. I even came close to falling out with family on there, in real life they are not the personas they portray
Thanks @gmuxx. Now we have more time for a much better platform :)
