Well, one week in the books! I am thrilled that my wife pestered me to join, because I have had a lot of positive experiences in a short time.
I feel like I am on the ground floor of something exciting and special. While it still is relatively new of a concept, I have already connected with a well-established circle of fellow beer enthusiasts and have read a lot of inspiring articles about travel, crypto, fitness, you name it.
I have always enjoyed writing. I have experimented with journaling and blogging in the past, but never found it hugely rewarding until I joined Steemit this week. I feel like it has quickly become an ideal outlet for expressing ideas about my activities and interests as well as connect with those like-minded and gather new ideas from those who are not.
Steemit has changed the way I think about crypto and blockchain technology in general. When I first entered crypto, it was presented to me as a wise investment from a friend, more savvy in the areas of technology and investing. I did not know what the blockchain was or even what i was really investing in. I went on to invest more as well as learn more, but a lot of the details remained fuzzy. After joining Steemit, I feel involved with how it all works because I am participating actively in the process, and it has made me understand the concepts of how it will change the world more.
Most importantly, I believe Steemit and others running on the blockchain have the power to re-democratize the world. While my country does represent itself under the guise of a democracy, I feel like it hardly fits the description at times. For the most part, we have elite and corrupt gatekeepers who make decisions amongst themselves which will make them the most profitable, but then make the people believe that we voted for it because it was in our best interest. Blockchain has the power to level the playing field by decentralizing currency and information so that everyone can have access to opportunity, privacy, and a voice.
In order to see the full scope of how much Steemit hopes to offer, we just need to look at Facebook. Facebook gets all our information for free, and makes all the money by advertising to us. By providing the platform to converse with our friends and share memes, they have become one of the most powerful companies in the world, while the general population has not equally flourished. The power of Steemit can make us all the individual gatekeepers of our life experience, where we can get a share of the pie instead of it all funneling to one place.
I know that most people, even myself, entered crypto so we could make millions, but Steemit and blockchain technology just might change the world enough to where we won’t need that to flourish. With our information safe, funds earned from content, and voice in a global community we may wake up soon to a much more exciting and balanced world. A perfect example of the great potential Steemit is realizing has been seen with Steemians supporting members in developing countries. It has given a voice to many unknown and underprivileged world citizens who are able to get aid where before they could not.
I have only begun to explore what Steemit has to offer, but these are my impressions thus far. I am glad to be on this ride with you all and look forward to the days and years to come.
I’m also one week in and enjoying it a ton. Keep on keepin’ on--hope it goes great for you!
Hey Brad welcome to Steemit, it really is a unique platform and I joined for many of the same reasons you mentioned. Cheers!
