I Steemit Differently Now Than I Did Six Months Ago

Six months ago, I was writing long diatribes about anything and everything, mostly focusing on the act of creative writing. I found some decent success and got into some fun/interesting discussions with people.

Most of those people have since disappeared. I know one has mostly left the platform and left a bot to upvote my posts in her absence. It is what it is, but I find myself spending less time creating posts due to the lack of interaction.

Is this because of my content? Possibly. Not everyone wants to read excerpts of my stories (published or not) and not everyone is interested in listening to my musical choices for the #recordpool #songoftheday. Perhaps everyone got tired of my salty ass "get off my lawn" posts geared towards the newbies who constantly asked for upvotes and follows without having created anything worth upvoting or following (but seriously...copy/pasting entire articles from elsewhere isn't you creating content; that makes you a lazy bastard and keeps me uninterested). Perhaps it's because I don't like talking about crypto all day long (even though those posts tend to make a metric fuckton of money ALL THE TIME). That's just not me.

Perhaps I have not engaged with enough people the way they have engaged with me. It's hard to figure out those metrics for this site, but human nature is a hard thing to contain and quantify anyway; people are endlessly fascinating because they are endlessly unique and have endless requirements for any given point in their day.

Whatever the reason, I've also been busy working a second job and trying to handle my finances. They aren't out of control, but I'm hoping to save up to go on a trip to Europe next year for my 40th birthday. I don't get to travel often anymore, and I haven't truly been out of the country in quite some time, much less gone across either the Atlantic or Pacific oceans.

Anyway, I like interacting with like-minded people. I get a few visitors here and there, but by and large, the majority of my old readers have disappeared for one reason or another. Here's hoping they find their own successes on the site.

Really appreciate you decisions. Nice work man!
Thanks for sharing your experience. it will help beginer like us.Anyway I hope you will be able to go on tour in europe soon.have fun😊

hopefully! and yeah, i'd like to make it to Europe, but we'll see if that becomes a reality too! :P

Did you ever consider splitting up into different accounts for posting on different subjects? I'm in the process of doing that. Not sure if it will work, but as I noticed sets of old "fiction" followers dropping off whenever I went into tech-geek mode , and as I noticed many of the accounts with loyal and interactive followers seem to be one trick ponies, it kinda made sense to try. Currently still resteeming posts from my lesser accounts, but I plan to stop that as soon as I feel the alt account could carry its own weight a bit, what I plan to do when the account in question hits 40+ rep at 100+ followers.

Hope eventually having a small hand full of one trick pony accounts could help follower retention.

Did you ever consider or try a strategy like that for trying to plug the hole through whitch old followers seem to disappear through?

i had not, but that's an interesting idea. my only issue with it is i'm already having trouble making the time for the site with just the single account, so making a second may be tough...but i do like the prospect of it. may have to give that a whirl. thanks!

I will be splitting accounts after I can earn enough steem power. There is great support within niches here. Those niches don't simply intersect. You could utilize services like steemauto to schedule posts. I'm not on a regular posting schedule yet, but it's a very helpful tools. Especially if you were to decide trying to manage multiple accounts. Helps manage time posting, following, etc, more efficiently.

Thanks for sharing this experience...it gives beginners like us the idea of what Steemit is really about....not just copying and pasting but creating our own content. Nice one.

well, it SHOULD be about creating content worth reading, but the last few months have seen an influx of copy/pasted stuff that's not always worth reading...and it rarely has any kind of commentary from the original poster here on Steemit, which is even more ridiculous since it doesn't take a lot of time to write a little somethin somethin if you're posting.

happy steeming.. keep sharing your experience and have a good trip with your wife...by the way thanks for sharing.. you are great👌
