Bid-bot activity report -- For the 7 day period ending 03/17/18. Who's paying the most to promote their articles?

in #steemit7 years ago

The list below represents the 50 largest transfers to bid-bots for the promotion of articles posted on Steemit during the last calendar week (Sunday through Saturday).

Due to formatting restrictions, only a few columns can be displayed.

What is this report?

Many authors choose to promote their posts via Bid-Bots. In return for direct payment, the bots will upvote your article. This service is fully "legal" on Steemit and used by minnows and whales alike.

There are many reasons why an author may want to purchase votes.

  • Give the impression that the article is of substantial value and perhaps you should think so too.
  • Cause the article to make it to the "Hot" or "Trending" category where it gets more exposure and more votes.
  • Cause the payout to increase so that anyone that votes on the post will share in a higher curation pool.
  • Attempt to make a direct profit on the vote by receiving a vote that nets more than the cost of the bid.
  • Increase the authors reputation by receiving votes from large and respected voters (large bots are whales).
  • Support another author or entity indirectly through a Bid-bot.

The list is sorted with the highest amounts paid to the Bid-bots on top in descending order (per bid basis).

  • From = The user who sent the payment to the bot.
  • To = The bot that has been paid to vote.
  • BID (SBD) = The amount sent to the bot in SBD or Steem.
  • Article Payout = The total STU (SBD/SP) payout value of for the entire article (not just the single bid). This is the total paid to the author and curators. (This is the $ value which shows on the bottom of every post.)
  • Link is the direct link to the article that has been promoted via the bid bot.

Sometimes great articles get to the top because they are great articles.

Sometimes other articles get to the top because there was sufficient money to pay for that placement. It is up to the community to judge if the rewards pool is being properly managed and distributed in a fair and honest manner.

The wonderful thing about Steemit and the Steem blockchain is everything is transparent

allowing you and all those who care about this platform to be educated on how to properly use the platform as well as how to protect it.

Please resteem this post if you think this information might be useful to the Steemit community.

Great info @bycoleman. I have decided to more thoroughly follow your posts, especially the ones on bots, as I like the way you try to (it seems) have a neutral take on it and more of a journalistic one, which is hard to find.

I also want to add that although I am still quite new on Steemit, I have been doing what a lot of veterans proposed, which is, for example, sincerly commenting by first reading someone's post, and also by adding something of value each day (or at least try to). No one can add great content all the time, so it is expected to have better days and also worse days. I am yet to investigate bots, and to consider if I want to use them, although I feel it is essential on Steemit to at least use them to some degree.

Bottom line for me is to be active, be transparent and be willing to add value without compensation. Steemit is a live community which means there is wonderful opportunity for relationship - something that will always and forever have the best chance of delivering good harvest!

Thank you for the follow and kind words.

I believe your proposed plan is perfect. Curating and commenting is much more effective early on than trying to post a lot of content no one will see. You really have to gain a bit of a following before you put a lot of effort into your own blog. Of course if there is nothing in your blog, then there is nothing to follow.

It is a balance.

Blessings!

You are right, I have spent some time on a post here and there and the trade-off is not even at equilibrium yet so I will rather work on followers and gaining favour, and continue to learn how to create better content. But yes if there is nothing in your blog, then there is nothing to follow

I think bid-bots are cool thing here but they should not be misused to promote some low quality post. Quality is the key. Without maintaining quality one can not go very far away in steemit world. Here everything is transparent in this amazing world of steemit blockchain. One can see how much someone has pay to promote his/her post. Hence, low quality but high grossing post can be noticed by the community and they may even be flagged. So, proper care is needed for all this.

I really agree with you. There is a great deal of abuse occurring by the minute with these hired voting machines. If they were gone completely the platform would certainly be a more level platform.

There is a bot in the works to address some of this.

Hope someday my article showed by you. Please keep sharing us.. Thanks so much

Much success and many blessings!

Artikel anda sangat luar biasa,
Saya ingin belajar dari anda ? Apakah ada tutorial atau artikel anda tentang steemit ?
Mohon dibagikan

As much as I grumble about this Bid-bot activity, it's starting to actually look like a semi-decent idea. Lord knows Minnow-Booster has been virtually dry for the past three weeks or so, and my naive hopes of getting semi-reasonable payouts based on research quality and thoroughness of articles (in other words, by generating page views on Steemit the same way I would on any other site, but getting a penny or so in the jar every time someone hits the "like" button) are dying a horrible death as this platform becomes guided by "let me like the ones that I can make money for liking, or the ones by people who liked mine."

It is a viscous cycle indeed. The only way to get noticed with any type of certainty is to pay to play. That in of itself it not evil, what is, is that pure trash can peculate to the top.

I believe at this point it is fine to use it to get a little visibility for quality work, if viewed as a form of advertisement budget, since there is very little alternate when you are getting started.

Smartmarket seems to have a little more voting power these days.

Blessings!

FUR'd! Great info. I noticed that those who were in your list in earlier posts ago are now nowhere to be found. Perhaps this series of yours is slowly changing the landscape of our platform. You have my full support @bycoleman.

Thanks as always!

I'm not sure, they will probably be back next week. There is another bot in the works to help with this issue.

Great work, I definitely feel that this sort of article is the one that should be getting $100+. Are you on discord/steemit chat? i.e a private chat service, I'd appreciate a second opinion on something

Thank you for the very kind words and support.

No sorry, I have no resources left in me to spread out to discord.

If it is not private, you are welcome to post it here.

Blessings!

No worries, I'm only signed up to it for the Gina bot updates.

Now's obviously not the time :)

With bid-bots , must of the newbies are the ones that suffers cus we come in here with out money to buy vote for ourselves and it's deficult to get vote even for a quality post you do when every one is busy buying votes for thier post..
I wish the was a way to moderate the use of it

It's funny to see the bot operators "paying" their own bots... lol.

I guess that's the ultimate legitimisation for self-voting? Because you pay yourself to do so?! chuckles

Pretty much every bot operator pays their bidbot for either upvotes back to themselves or of course delegate their SP to the bot. There is just a lot of money circling around with these things.

I really don't think they add any value whatsoever to the platform, but who am I to say. There here to stay, it is just pay to play.

just pay to play

unfortunately that has become the norm!

So for those who can’t pay for Bots, how likely is it to do well on Steemit? I understand quality of content is important but it seems like it’s nit exactly enough. Does Steemit have an algorithm like other platforms? Or is it mainly whomever pays more / combined with good content, is the most successful? Lol sorry for all the questions

Thanks @bycoleman! I finally started posting this past weekend and looking at everyone talking about bots for good and bots for bad. I really appreciated the this post and glad to know someone is out their making it easier although everything is transparent. Although i just started on Friday, I am making a good effort to get on everyday and make meaningful comments from reading other peoples content. Definitely earned a follow from me.
