Naughty Tagger's List 3/11/18 - 3/17/2018 -- Tag spammers identified.

in #steemit7 years ago

The list below identifies the authors who have "Introduced" themselves or products at least 20 times since the start of 2018 AND have posted again in this tag last week. Only the first 13 authors are on the list this week

This is information only. The information was obtained programmatically via SteemSQL;

It is possible that some of these authors have legitimate reasons for using the introduceyourself tag repeatedly, it is up to the community to decide that. Note: @markup was removed from this list.

This article (post) is also being tagged with the introduceyourself category. I believe it does belong under this tag, but let me know if you prefer not to have it posted there. I will certainly listen to the community on this subject.

The list below includes articles only (no comments) and only includes authors who have new posts last week in the introduceyourself tag.

Tag spam can really make it hard to find articles you are truly interested in when authors intentionally post their content using tags that really do not apply to their article's content.

If you find this tag spam to be unacceptable behavior, then let the author know. A quick comment with your honest view point may be sufficient to make a real change. Letting them know they are on "The Naughty Taggers List" may be plenty useful.

I will be updating this list on a weekly basis.

It is possible the authors below have already made changes to their tags and habits and their newer posts may be more properly categorized. But the count is accurate one way or the other as to the number of articles in the "Introduceyourself" category as of the time the list was generated.

To help fight tag spam in the Introduceyourself tag, I have launched a tool called @IntroBot.

@introbot is an automated bot hosted and managed by @bycoleman to welcome new users, provide helpful links and information and most importantly to help insure they become a success and asset to the platform.

@introbot works in conjunction with other tools to help fight tag spamming and abuses, particularly associated with the introduceyourself tag. Click here to view the latest comments made by introbot.

The success of introbot is dramatic.

This week there are only 13 total authors on the list. This is compared to several hundred total tag abusers before introbot went to work! Note: Due to an error in last week's query, it did not include a week of activity.

If you would like to support Introbot, simply upvote any of the warnings or comments it has made or create your own reply directly to author and let them know how you feel.

Some of the authors on this list are now being flagged by introbot, but continue to ignore these notifications. Introbot uses increasingly higher SP as the occurrences continue. If you feel so inclined as to flag some these post as well, the authors may find it very prudent to change their tag selection in future posts.

Feedback is requested, good or bad. I'm working towards a great platform, but your concept of great might be different than mine, so I am very interested in your concept. Also, let me know if you would like to see more of these types of list.

As usual, FUR'd!

Thanks so much for putting this out. I'm still new here as you know, but that's one thing I noticed quickly, how bad that tag especially was being misused. I've used that tag once, it was my very first post. In my opinion that just feels like the right thing to do, you know unless the author is suffering from amnesia I can't see why you would want to keep introducing yourself, at some point just makes you look not so right in the head.

Btw I would totally upvote this post if it wasn't for the fact I screwed up and let my power level drop to 50% . I'm such a doofus lol.

Yes, I very much agree of course with what you have said about using the tag more than once.

There is also an "introduce" tag people can use if they want to introduce a new product etc, but "yourself" is only once.

No problem on the upvote, I certainly appreciate the support just the same.

Blessings!

No problem on that support, you were one of the first people who welcomed me to the community. You seem like good people, and I like good people.

Ditto. Its nice to have friends.

I only wish to aspire to the things you’ve achieved

Then you will and much greater!

Blessings!

I agree, @djfugly. When I did my first post a few days ago, and tagged it with introduceyourself, I went to that page 2 minutes later to see it, and my post had already dropped off the page. I thought, "How could there be that many newbies posting their introduction post at exactly the same time as me?" Now I realize that there's tagging abuse and spamming going on.

Thank you, @bycoleman, for doing so much to tackle this issue!

Yeah and the sad thing is from my understand we minnows don't really have enough voting power to try to flag it with any effectiveness. I would be great is we could use all this bot knowledge and power in some where that would allow effective flagging of misuse as well. I'm not sure exactly how it could be done. Maybe if it was some bot where you could submit a flag, and it use a vote weight similar to how the vote weight works, except it would have a threshold, point where once the threshold was met it could flag abuse using it's strength. Kinda like a proxy. I don't know maybe just an idea.

The whole voting power, bandwidth, vote weight, etc is way over my head. It's a complicated system, that's for sure! I've learned a lot hanging out at the Peace, Abundance, Love channel on Discord (Minnow Support Project), but it was several days before I understood that there was such a resource, lol. By that time, my IntroduceYourself post was already old and buried.

I think it would be great if, when someone signs up for a Steemit account, they are provided with a list of Steemit articles to peruse that would start preparing them. There's a waiting period before getting accepted onto Steemit anyway, so may as well use that newbie enthusiasm to begin preparing! :-)

Yeah I think that would be good for sure. Btw love the name just checked out your blog and throwing you a follow. Looks interesting :D

Thanks, I followed you back. :-)

Thanks I actually also just shared your intro post on Facebook. It's freaking great. I so wish I could vote you up, cause this makes me smile.

Thank you from both of us!

thank you for the information you share today.

hopefully we are free from the good introbot

Thank you for the support.

I went to each of these pages and upvoted Introbot's reply. I really like how the comments start out friendly and informative, then escalate to a red flag and a warning about downvoting. It's also very helpful that the number of infractions is listed.

There was one blogger who apologized and seemed not to know that he'd used the tag incorrectly. Of course, innocent mistakes could happen to any of us while trying to get to know this platform. I also saw several posts whose pages were "hidden due to low ratings." What does that mean?

Again, thank you for creating this bot, @bycoleman. I'm very new here (7 days), but have already seen that the Community itself is addressing issues of spam, botvotes, etc.

Thank you for the great reply and questions.

Yes, introbot does try to first educate and then warn more aggressively. The author has to pretty much ignore or simply defy multiple notifications. Once it starts downvoting, it uses stronger and stronger SP to get them to change their tag selection. It is very effective in the end.

The posts that no longer show are a result of introbots and/or byColeman downvotes, causing the authors post to be hidden.

When someone with a higher reputation than you downvotes your post, it effects your reputation negatively. If a high enough downvote power is used, the post may become hidden.

And of course welcome!

oh, now I understand a little bit more. Thanks!
Glad to be here on Steemit.

nice work. am sure this is good for the community

Thanks for the support!

Welcome and let's keep in touch 😎

Thanks for sharing this information with us. I am new here and seen many people posting nonsense and misusing tags. They are posting uselessly hoping to get some profit from it. I think for their behavior here, their habits on other social media platform may be responsible because for example in facebook people can get like even if they post a single selfie their. They are used to this behavior. So, they must be guided to have a proper behavior here.

Thank you for your support.

Yes, there is tremendous abuse in many of the tags. This is just the first one. I will try to address others as the budget allows. Many times people just need a little education as you say, sometimes it takes a bit more.

Blessings.

introbot has come to my blog. He warn me about my post in introduceyourself tag five times. Honestly, As a new comer, I use this tag will help me better in steemit. But i know that is wrong. So, appreciate your post here.
Give many enlightement to me or another steemians.

Hi,

Just don't use the introducyourself tag on your next post.

Try to select tags that are relevant to the material you are posting.

Much success.

yes. now i try to kepp awareness to use relevant tag. yesterday I was afraid. Almost lost my confidence to post anymore.
today I brave to write again the tittle SAVING FOR LEBARAN ALLOWANCE IN STEEMIT. I totally look atthe tag in preview in order to avoid your introbot come again.
Thank you and thank you very much for your support.
thank you to Steemit to allow me post and post. I and many new steemians need media and also guidance.

Hi coleman,
Thank you for developing the bot I get annoyed by the people who dont play fair ! Iig i do a few #introduceyourself i Will make mire money but that not the rule !! I think @ned should fine the obuse and the newbies that do that!
Greets from Holland

Thanks Holland. I would really like to see a few whales get involved more on cleaning up the platform as well. My guess is that many do not want to rock the boat to much. They are doing just fine.

Blessings!

That they era doing find is because off the platform and the content ... so ... they should but probably wont 😬😔 good luck See you around

89 "introduction" posts??? That's crazy!

There were some that had posted more than 250 times before the bot got going.

Blessings!

That's just nuts. Hopefully that kind of rampant tag spamming can be stamped out. As a newbie, I want to be able to search and find content that interests me without wading through a lot that doesn't.

Hi Bot,
Thx for dropping by today. I did not have the intention to write on the introduceyourself page. It did came their due to a referral to the tag in my post. So yes, I was wrong. No it was not intentional.
Good to see, that you are fighting Tag Spam!

Cheers,
Peter

Thanks for the reply, not a problem, you won't be showing up on this list.

Thanks for the support.

Blessings!
