Lately I have heard from friends that want to start “making money on the internet” and because they think “I know things” they come and ask me about Steemit, these are some of the questions that really annoy me:
1. How much money can I make per month?
2. Why are my posts only making cents?
2. How do I cash this out to Pesos or Dollars?
What usually happens is they give up after maybe 4 or 5 posts. The worst part is that they never take any blame for not being persistent or for having poor marketing skills, they end up blaming the whole platform – “Nah, Steemit doesn’t work”. Of course, I guess that is easier than saying “I gave up and I am horrible at marketing myself”.
If you “want to make money online”, you have to be persistent and know about SEO. But above all, if you want to be successful you have to enjoy what you do. I enjoy writing and expressing my ideas, I do it for free at Medium and Reddit. But if you don’t write or post and all of the sudden you want to open an Steemit account and make 1k per month, then you are delusional.
If you are getting similar questions from your friends and family, you could answer them something like this:
1. Depends on what you write and the amount of followers you get, at first you will not get much.
2. Because you are new, nobody knows you or maybe because what you are writing sucks.
3. You convert them to Bitcoin and then to your local currency (This will open up a bunch of other questions, but only worry about that if they do actually end up making some money).
Conclusion
Like many of you, I have been promoting Steemit to my friends and family. But it is best to make sure we bring the people who are not only interested in making money, those people will come and go, we want passionate content creators, those are the ones that will succeed.
Maybe in the future, we could hide the money each post is making. Youtubers make money but that remains private to the user. I believe that attracting users only on the “make money” slogan could be negative in the long run.
Excellent post. Being brand new here on Steemit I can relate. My posts currently only make a few cents but I understand it is a process. Right now I am posting in blog style to document photos and experiences that have happened. I look at it as a digital photo album so we can go back and look at "Living the Good Life in the Last Best Place Montana"!
I like your way!
Yeah, its not good to market steemit as a place to earn money because people will then be focusing in that, and if failed to gain, they will just leave. The essence of the platform will then gone.
True that. Steemit is a fantastic community
Indeed fantastic
exactly.
yeah, me too. What surprises me the most right now that the Venture Capital tech bros are contacting me on FB messenger asking me to be their crypto investment advisor!
haha its crazy right?...everybody wants to get a piece of the action... I have been given money with no questions asked.. they just tell me "here, invest it in Bitcoin.. make me money"... WTF!
My mom finally caved in and bought $500 worth of DASH from me. She's made a bit of profit, but I told her to hold onto it until Evolution is launched......that's the big software project coming up that no other coin has......
Yes, suddenly everyone wants our knowledge that has been accumulating (for me only one year, but solid one year, as I quit all of my other jobs, and went headfirst into blockchain, writing about it etc.....) I now have many sources of income, and abundance is basically all around me. The experience has been life changing for many reasons. An even bigger guy contacted me recently. He works for Jay-Z's media company. I might be getting into a huge project. It's crazy. I wonder how these people will react when they see that bitcoin is at $1900.....but my guess is that crypto is just about to explode, in a bigger way than we can imagine.
I wrote on your first ever post, I think it was about you being a young model in Japan, if I recall correctly I said you will be a new "rising star"... I was right!!.. and I am Damm Proud of you.. I also remember when you visited Dan and Ned haha, you should write more about that, I bet Dan was a weird a genius! lol.
Anywayz, yes.. Blockchain is the new trend and we should not let what we have learnt go to waste.
oh god! I am going to release the video that NED CENSORED! I think today is the day!!!!!!!!
Exelente post, excellent platform steemit I am really excited and I have dedicated much of my time in trying to grow in this community, a vote may not cost you anything but for me it means a lot, you follow me I tell you.
Please comment
Stellabelle! I tried to join your Women of Dash Slack group a while back but ran into issues. I also subscribe to Amanda's youtube. She is my hero going all in on DASH. Money where her mouth is.
yes, she's a great teacher. what was your issue?
I think the issue was I didn't know what I was doing with Slack back then lol. I will try again!
Wow @stellabelle, congratulations.
Well said
HEY, I have an idea for an article: if you are up for a Skype call, I'd love to ask more questions about this......for me it's been in the last 2 weeks that I've gotten messaged from: 1 Venture Capitalist, 1 Media/Marketing guy from LA, some local friends....and others I cannot recall.....
anyway, I think it would be interesting to get your story, maybe I can create a good article...Let me know if you're interested. I have time today. thx
argh I would love to talk today, but I am literally in the busiest day ever! as soon as I finish work I have to go move furniture! haha... drop me an email and we can arrange a day!
ok sounds good.
That's CRAZY!
That's a valid point indeed. People are not taking Steemit as a social platform, rather than only as a earning platform. Do they get paid for posting on FB and all. No. But here they can. But seems they are not satisfied with this alone. The questions you posted above are the same ones which my FB friends ask me, each time I tell them about Steemit. So I am focusing less on the and actually trying to bring in people who just want an wider audience and money as an extra thing, not primary.
It's totally understandable when people jump into the world of crypto with both feet and high expectations. It's like a second chance for those of us who missed out on the internet bandwagon 20 years ago. This feels like the same level of magnitude in terms of disruption and potential, only this time...we're not going to let this chance slip by ..seatbelts on everyone, it's gonna be a BUMPY ride!
Completely agree @chitty people come on here expecting to make alot of money per month and when that doesn't happy they bizarrely go back to facebook where they get nothing..hmm maybe its because they have their friends there already.
this is a valuable post, well said my friend. Steemit is for passionate content creators, not people looking for an instant miracle to millions, those are the ones who end up giving up right away. We havent even cracked the surface yet of incredible content creators discovering steemit and crypto in general, its a good time to be in now, the masses will come and quality talents and information will rise up. its a whole new shift, a lot of figuring out to be done, a lot of wiggling, its hold on tight time.
I signed up back in July to see if I can make some money. I am not much of a blogger but I have earned some "coins" along the way. However, I have earned a lot more in terms of the knowledge of have gained plus some people are just so entertaining.
Thanks for this article because tells it all. At the begining steemit seems to be something that makes for people a lot of money quickly and they get so excited but when they discover that it needs efforts and committment they get disapointed and quit. Nothing comes easily. This platform is amazing and it rewards people of their efforts. So instead of feeling disapointed people should ask themselves why dont I use steemit to express my thoughts and get rewared for that instead of using other platforms which not only get advantage of me but also steals my personal information and sell them to other companies. Steemit is the future of blogging, it is freedom.
I would venture a guess you mention profit in your promotion, so these will be natural questions from people.
Don't keep writing the same post all over again.
Create a detailed cut and paste response for every valid Question, and in 2 seconds Boom ! they have the answer :-)
Be annoyed at making the first 1, but after that....click click Done.
Hope this makes life easier for you
Steem on !
You are right, I would have to analyze the way I pitch it too... however when they look at any post they are inclined to focus on the $ sign at the bottom, I would remove it all together.
I'm what you might call poor in coin, but rich with Life.
I decided to stay with topics : Life, stories, philosophy along that line.
Not very pay day oriented at the moment, but they and I will grow with time :-)
Life is Good :-)
Interesting! you raise some valid points.
I'm a newbie and not making on my post, but I like the community.
I'm going to go pout my post didn't get an up vote. I hate you steemers. Hahahahahaha
I have earned one penny more than Facebook and I am happy. Steem on. Steem on.
I am new here as well. I feel like this platform is more for thinkers and creative people rather then other social media platforms based on beauty and artificial reality....I am still trying to find my way around and grow followers....but I do have to say that I am a bit turned off by all the crypto currency, and how to make money on steemit posts that are always in my face, especially by new to steemit people. I admit I know not much about all that...but I see the underlying consensus of people seeking real people...real content...things that make you think...and that is what I am attracted to here.
Good post. 👍
I would fall under the category of new and earning my wings here. However the idea of SEO, content creator, marketing skills are misleading in my mind. On Facebook or Reddit or Twitter most people aren't thinking about those.
They are thinking about connecting.
They are thinking about being real.
They are thinking about sharing their passions.
I feel if we communicate those things and the crypto is icing on the cake then we will be doing the steemit community more justice.
Honestly, I would rather have a diverse community of passionate people then to repeat the blogging trend that has taken over in the past ten years. We may be splitting hairs on terms but I think these are some pretty thick hairs.
My 2 cents💰
Buen post. es una lastima que tanta gente comience en steemit para ganar dinero y no aprecien la gran red social que es.
Couldn't agree more, just treat it as any other social media platform, money may or may not come. Since it's still in its infancy, one can't predict what $1 earned here today might be worth next year, only thing in our capacity is to create good content , spread awareness, attract new users and most importantly, USE the platform like any other social media, I've repeated the last point twice because a lot of users (new and old) seem pretty superficial (to the point some even start looking like sycophants ) in their interactions and posts
.
Moving to steemit is like moving to a foreign country in some respects. New people to steemit need to understand local customs, introduce themselves to their new neighborhood, learn the language and above all else, not expect a handout. There is an extensive learning curve to overcome to make your work product attractive to other users and this takes time. It also takes relationship building. Steemit is a tremendous platform. Selling people on the idea that posting on steemit is solely about money are sorely mistaken. It takes hard work to develop a brand (yourself) and make that brand of value to strangers.
Абсолютно верно,..вывод?...пока будешь зарабатывать пытаться и помереть успеешь..)))...если ты не создавал Steem,нефиг тут и ловить,так что просто очередная флудилка,со временем сдуется...,это не биткоин..
Well actually you CAN make money here. The thing is (as you perfectly mentioned) that you need patience and consistency. This is a JOB like any other that requires hard work to become best at it :)
As you also perfectly stated: focussing on the content helps. If you produce quality people won't be able to ignore you :) And then the money gets in automatically... Great post! Followed
Вы не коммунист?))))))
Einmal die 4-Jahreszeiten mit extra Käse und eine Portion Pommes mit Majo, Bitte.
"How do I cash this out to Pesos or Dollars"? It makes me laugh. People don't realize they are exchanging one virtual currency for another.
We will definitely need to protect against people who will try and abuse the system. I think the community will evolve to tackle these issues as we go as we are breaking new grounds with all of this!
This makes a lot of sense... be good at what you do and be persistent. Thanks for the advice.
Get rich on Steem or die trying. 😂
I am very new here, and yes I was attracted by the 'blog and make money' slogan. However I am actually quite enjoying steem and have become quite addicted to it all! I'm not sure how much non-monetary value other users get from my posts but for now I am concentrating on trying to build a following. If the money comes, it comes, if not then I've at least had fun.
Sure
Hey, are you interested in doing a Skype call sometime? I have always wanted to interview a Steem Witness....
ok let's do it where i can see your skype ?
Well I have always been a "back-up witness".. its hard to get in the top 19.. big witnesses vote each other and they are the biggest whales so unless you are a talented bastard you wont get in there lol..
Sure, lets talk.. I am actually moving homes now so I am busy as hell for the next week or so.. but we can arrange for the first week of june. You can write to me at [email protected] and I send you my skype there.
Not me I understand that you have to make great stuff in order to earn more but I like the community and it's better than the other social media platforms cause you can get paid
Haha i know what you mean!... But lets face it, steemit is not for everyone, some people cant manage social platforms, if they come here just for the money, they will certainly fail...
Абсолютно верно,....на этом все и покупаются))....вернее их разводят,...пока...
i agree with this post or blog
mostly give up after 3 to 5 posts , and blame the website
i seen that a lot in another platform i am
here in steemit am really new and i know almost nothing yet
perhaps if those who know willing to share their knowledge with those who do know nothing ?
another thing i agree with you it's mostly of this people who it's ignorant in something they blame the system but they never blame the lack of persistence they have
i would rate you big if i could but i just give you a vote and follow you
perhaps i get more tips
thanks for your blog
nice.....resteem and upvote for your post....
I have been making a full-time income from the Internet since 2008. During that time, I've had numerous friends and family members ask me to show them how to do it.
I do a whole lot of different things to earn my living online such as ghost write articles and eBooks, create tutorial video courses and other digital products, blogging, website creation and flipping, and building email lists of highly targeted subscribers so I can promote affiliate products to them. I've done quite well for myself over the past 8-9 years.
However, I have yet to have anyone that I have tried to teach achieve my level of success. Is it because I am a bad teacher? Absolutely not. If that were the case, my tutorial courses would not be so popular and nobody would hire me to ghost write their eBooks for them.
The problem is that because my family members see that I work from home and don't appear to be working a lot (which is not true), they assume that what I do is very easy. The fact is, nothing could be further from the truth.
It took me almost 3 years of putting in 12-14 hour days on the computer before I was able to make enough money to support myself completely. Yet, the people who ask me to teach them don't want to hear that. I've even had perfect strangers approach me on Facebook and some other marketing forums and ask me if I can show them how to make $600 in the next 7 days so they can pay their rent.
Well, the answer to that question is absolutely NOT! The real shame is that once people see exactly just how much hard work is involved in running an online business, they up and quit and then comes the "this doesn't work."
Well, obviously it does work, since I have been doing it for almost 10 years. I often feel like coming right out and telling them "It's not the business model that doesn't work, it's YOU that doesn't work!"
А кофе с булками ты тоже производишь???..очень малое число людей может позволить 10 лет в интернете виснуть,каждому свое,это же элементарно....
It's a numbers game on here. Most of my posts don't make more than a dollar, but I'm not discouraged. I've only had one post that made $40, and since then I've traded bitcoins and altcoins to make a few more dollars. I don't expect much from this site, and when those expectations are exceeded it's a good day. You just have to plug away at it, until your average payout is high. Great post!
Вам нравится корпеть на "дядю"?))). ….почему кругом такие наивные....
I'm just here to have conversations. I'm happy to receive one or two replies to my posts :D
You are so right! I have been on steemit for a couple of weeks, and I am really enjoying it! I have already learned a lot from others. I have friends who say, "I just don't have that much to write about." I'm like, "every day of life is full of interesting things that others can relate to, whether lessons, humor, or insights." So important to enjoy the writing though. Thanks for posting this. :)
Well said....... I need to get on the ball myself. There is a lot of potential here. But you have to want it and more importantly, you have to have the desire to put up some worth while posts.
🎯 touche 🎯
me too
Excellent Post. Yes, we can only earn if we have content, Just with the motto of earning money, We can't sell ourselves in the market.
Очень наивно..))
I heard about Steemit at the end of an X22 report spotlight episode. I have been looking for ways to make money online. I am a musician full time. I had a day job for about three years at a we buy gold shop called Aplus gold buyers. When the price of gold went down to below $1200 for a minute back in 2014 I think, the couple that owned our company closed all but the third and last shop. I was their last employee and they finally closed that shop even though they said they were still breaking even, because they had several other businesses that were doing much better that they were more interested in continuing. I really just want to evolve writing and music videos and any other video content into a lucrative enough thing that I can live wherever I like as long as I have an internet connection. I figure I can play music anywhere. If I had enough side money coming in I could move to a more tropical slower paced place/life. I am enjoying playing around with Steemit. I have no idea what I am doing, but having fun learning. This has got to better than writing things on FB for free.... :-)
Ну дак вам не Steem нужен,не тратьте время,есть уже другие проекты для музыки....
EXCELLENT POST
woow, i like it. i love argentina. I come from indonesia.
Great article. I am not on steemit to make money I am here to try and get my truth out to the masses who are kept in the dark and fed BS by a political class. We need honesty and integrity and we are not getting it. That has to change if we are not going to be subdued and prayed upon and enslaved forever we need change and we need it fast.
I agree, "chitty". I enjoy writing, and I love, for example, seeing hidden themes in movies or music that others miss. I haven't spent any time on Reddit, but I've written plenty of stuff, and I am fascinated by watching money completely reinvent itself in my lifetime.
I've done some promotion of Steemit, but lately I've been focusing on just getting out there and giving follow "steemians" a digital handshake. I've also been slowly but surely learning the ins and outs of the platform.
Before I discovered Steemit, I was planning on creating a blog, with a web-site, a domain name, the need to learn certain, basic stuff like HTML might've even been necessary. Some of that stuff is costly. Now though, I see this platform as a great opportunity to experiment, hone my content, and still make a little money.
I feel your pain, people just don't know how difficult it is to make anything generally depending on what you're doing. Even with what I would say the more 'easier' stuff like simply writing a blog or making a youtube video you still have to actually think about what you're doing, edit everything up and make sure it all makes sense.
As I've discovered with my own blog, there are periods where there's fuck all attention to your work so you have to adapt to that as well, people like you who can get $200 posts are very lucky lol. Building a business and being self-employed is not easy, the people you are talking to as you say clearly think it is.
Сами себе и ответили))).."ясно думают"...)))
Great contents comes with great reward.
I try to seek out other alphas. Betas are good test subjects and reticent but the alphas are like a fine wine. Just nudge them toward a great intellectual outlet and let them utilize their endurance and intrinsic motivation to add layers of goodness tot he steemit onion. Growing is a slow process! I enjoy making two cents for my two cents :)
Thank you for great post!
Voted and followed. :)
Not only do I want to get rich but I also want to have fun doing it.
