SOMEONE AT STEEMIT IS CENSORING CONTENT

in #steemit5 years ago

Take a look at the tag: CLIMATE.

A number of articles on the topic have been "hidden." These articles / content may express controversial opinions. I was not aware that "wrong-think" was hidden on Steemit. Someone (or an algorithm written for the same purpose) makes the content more difficult to find. Censorship will destroy Steemit. If I wanted some douchebag elitist in the Silicon Valley deciding what I can or cannot say on social media, I would have a Facebook account. Stop the censorship. Let the market decide what is worthy content.

It's someone. A professional downvoter; his nick starts with the "bl", ends with the "oom" and contains 5 letters. I made a mistake to post a joke on climate change and he pillaged my blog, downvoting 10 posts and bumping my score from 27 down to 8.

Censorship will destroy Steemit.

Amen to that. This is nothing but abuse. He keeps coming back to downvote anything I post, so, in fact I can't post anything until I catch up to him or else my score will go into negative because of all his downvotes. To me this is abuse and harassment. Hopefully there is a way to stand up to this censoring freak.

Thanks for that intel. How do you determine the ID of the down-voter?

You can actually see it right there on your own comment. It's the guy who gave it the first (and only) downvote. His steam power is over 12000 and his reputation is 45; so all those with lower reputation and lower steam power are vulnerable. There has been a suggestion that declining rewards would make one's reputation immune from downvoting - well, that doesn't appear to be working too well (one downvote from that behemoth bully = hidden comment and minus 1.5 to the reputation.)

P.S. Now he gave me 100% downvote for this comment, so my reputation is down to 23. If you could upvote both comments that he downvoted to offset the damage a little bit - I'll appreciate. Thanks.

Yep, good point, that doesn't seem to slow them down much.

Please keep your default on "payout declined" for everything for more than 7 days. That way we can test to make sure your rep decline isn't due to b l o o m downvoting one (or all) of your posts (that are less than 7 days old) that doesn't have declined payouts.

Well, here's the catch - Steemit itself doesn't censor. BUT - if a user with a higher reputation score downvotes your post, one such downvote can outweigh many upvotes from the weaker users and the post immediately gets hidden "for low rating". The only way to overcome this is to have your reputation score higher than his. Which is quite difficult considering that his powerful downvotes bump your reputation way down.
