To me, this is a very unorthodox arrangement and truly makes it unique vs other social media platforms such as facebook, instagram, twitter, etc.
The idea behind this, was that this evolution would help spread the value and wealth to the content developers and contributors to the site rather than the platform itself. Essentially the people who contribute good quality material on a regular basis would become the shareholders and ultimately become the beneficiaries of any revenue generated.
In a world dominated by Social Media, This is a paradigm shift where companies such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. generate traffic, impressions, and revenue off of content we produce and share. Everything we contribute is essentially monetized and benefits the platform. In the case of Youtube, we only get a small percentage of the revenue that is earned from the content we create and share. This is not to say we don't benefit, because we do. We just earn a small percentage for a large percentage of the contribution and work we put in.
The plan of @ned is to change that and ensure that the larger portion, or even 100% of the revenue that is generated from the content we create, is given to the creators, which to me is more fair. This movement will hopefully get more people to make the leap to Steemit and leave the other social media platforms.
Revenue would also be generated by direct advertising. As I understood it, companies would be able to post related content that would be displayed at the end of user created posts. Any fee's gathered would then be distributed across the network to support Steemit, the community, and the advertising companies - In a nutshell, advertisers would earn on their own generated content.
In an environment such as this, everyone wins. A mutually beneficial relationship is formed where everyone earns and is willing and able to help each other and support the growth and development of the community.
I for one - am looking forward to this evolution and the future growth of Steemit.
What do you think about this plan? Let me know what you think in the comments below.
As always Thanks for reading and keep on Steeming!!
Great idea, I just up-voted your post. However I have one minor concern...
I understand how that might be attractive for profit reasons. However, one of the awesome and unique things that makes steemit great in my opinion, is the absence of all the advertisements and nonsense. I certainly wouldn't want some Doritos ad on the bottom of a blog post I wrote about GMO's for example. Would content creators have the right to not accept these direct adverts on the bottom of our blog posts? I know we could "flag" the ad if it was in the comment field of our post, but if any big time company comes on here, my tiny SP power won't be able to remove a post from a big time advertiser with lots of capitol they could use to buy steem power. Thoughts?
I dont think it's necessarily an ad. Just listed as a "related post" assuming it relates to something you posted. It would mean the Advertiser would need to create the post and you as a user would have the option to click on the post as if it was a post from any other user - and it would only show up if it was related to the topic of the post you are reading.
An example. You are reading a post from a user that is related to Bitcoin. At the bottom of the post would be a list of posts that relates to Bitcoin including any advertiser posts that relate to Bitcoin.
That is my assumption
Okay, that does seem reasonable. Thank you so much for getting back to me! Have a nice day!
This is fantastic. I'd love to see Steemit go this route. Admittedly these plans must be rather long-term, but with vesting shares built into the platform the way they are, Steemit is all about longevity and long-term returns. The fact that this non-profit plan is even out there at all is amazing and really differentiates Steemit as a social media platform from Facebook and others.
definitely agree. This would absolutely benefit long term supporters
I noticed this non-profit plan and the plan to put related content which could be a form of ads, when I watched the live Oslo steam. I think that both are good ideas, but it seems like they are something that are still being designed and I'm not sure how long it will be until we see them realized. Good write-up on these things from the live stream!
Yep. I assume as well that it is a long term plan. Glad to see that the team is thinking long term. It is a good plan
thank you for post)
its a little bit not about this topic, but maybe you know answer, why on my Estimated Account Value, for example have $2.52 but 1 hour before was $ 2.80
what i dont understand about steemet?
A percentage of the earnings is paid out to curators. Also the amount fluctuates based on how much the curator votes on other posts because his/her voting power gets spread out among the votes he/she makes.
thank you)
I think this is the next stage of the evolution of steemit!
This may or may not be pertinent...I feel that it is.
In the next few years (it's already happening) automation and robotics will replaced the big percentage of ALL jobs. It will eventualy come to the point where anything done ONCE by a human can then be done afterwards by a machine. (machines can't innovate..but once taught( programmed) they can do anything)
That means if your job is not creative...you won't have one.
That mean...the majority of people will be OUT of work.
Production (as now) will continue to increase. The owners of the machines will get (more) rich.
How will the other 90% survive?
I'm thinking that Steemit (and others like it) might be part of the solution.
Or in a perfect world, money will become irrelevant because we have robots doing all the work for us :)
I believe that's what I just said.
Not really. You mentioned owners of the money would get more rich and others would be out of a job. I replied by saying there would be no need for money hence no one would be getting richer and we wouldn't have to worry about surviving since money would be of no use since everything would be produced by robots.
Like Star Trek - people would all have responsibilities, but would be doing them to improve society and benefit themselves and the human race
