On the 14th of November 2016 the Kaikoura earthquake hit. My family and i were out on the Queen Charlotte track.

We were going for a 4-5 day hike through the beautiful Marlborough Sounds. We had pitched or tent had our dinner and were tucked away in the tent for the night. Then at 2 minutes past midnight BOOM SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE THE WORLD. A 7.8 earthquake hit New Zealand centered off the Kaikoura coast.

I am from Wellington and used to earthquakes, but this was like nothing i had felt before. and to top it off I WAS IN A TENT.
The shake felt like it went for a life time. My wife and i jumped to cover our 8 year son. We thought all the trees were going to fall down.
It took a while to fall back to sleep after that.

In the morning everything was calm and seeing as we were out in the bush we were none the wiser to what had happened to Kaikoura. so we carried on our tramp.

Then on day 3 the rain hit and didnt stop.
This is one hike i will never forget.
EARTHQUAKES, LANDSLIDES and FLOODS.
What an adventure

It definitely was. An adventure i will never forget.

For as frightening it seemed to be, the photos are just gorgeous!

Wow! What an experience that must have been! Pictures are beautiful and the size of them are perfect. I cant figure out how to make them smaller either but oh well!

I have been doing a lot a fiddling aroind on the formating of a blog. But i cant seem to get it looking like other peoples. We will get there though.
And yes that was one of my more adventurius hikes

What an exciting trek. I would have petrified and probably packed my stuff to head home the next morning. Good on you for soldiering on!

I'm off to NZ for the first time next month and am really looking forward to it, though I'm sure its going to be no way as exicting as your trek as we'll just be driving around.

If you have anymore fab NZ posts, please keep them coming. Am following
