Steemit's Current Position
As many of you know Steemit is currently closed to new users and they cannot create accounts. This is happening at a time where Steemit is getting massive media attention. Most bloggers and individuals who are trapped on the outside want to become part of our elusive club. I already have friends complaining that I am lucky I have an account and they cannot get in. However, Steemit is still not known to the public at large
Why Facebook gained so much media attention in the beginning
When Facebook was founded only students and alumni who had a Harvard address where able to create an account. Slowly hype grew around the social media platform and they expanded their user base to allow Ivy League University students and alumni to create accounts. The media and hype machine started covering Facebook and since it was exclusive everyone wanted to be a part of it. Facebook moved to allowing users to invite friends and then opened it up to the public. By the time it reached the public everyone wanted to be a part.
Steemits Rare opportunity.
Steemit currently has a rare opportunity because of the disabled user creation. If instead of opening Steemit up to the general public, they allowed its current user base to invite people to join the online community it will create a public hysteria.
This will slow the initial growth of the community, but the people who are invited will more likely be individuals who will add value to the community at large. The media will pick up on this and talk about how to get an exclusive invite. Outsiders who cannot get in will want nothing more than to be allowed to participate on Steem. The snowball effect and media attention this will create will benefit the Steemit community and help it strive to be the future platform for social media.
I think they closed registration because they couldn't handle the influx of new users, and they'll re-open once they do.... not to create an "exclusive club" vibe
If we can get enough attention to this post maybe we can change that! That's why I titled it "How" and not "Why steemit will get the facebook bump"
I think if you put this on the basis of supply and demand, they are limiting the supply so the demand is going up. The current high demand for steemit will help it increase its value which is good for those who invested early in the platform.
I agree, the current demand will definitely help us investors!
I like this idea.... Instead of opening the gates to the public at large open up 5 invites pe registered user at a time. Allows new people in in a metered capacity while still in beta phase. Great idea
Interesting, thank you, I'm still learning what this is all about but am thrilled to be part of this creative community.
Thanks, Glad you're here!
How can we gain traction on this post so some of the developers can see this idea?
Facebook grew so fast in the beginning because it allowed friends to connect to friends in an instant and find friends by using thier name and photo etc. this was obviously groundbreaking.
Currently Steemit does not offer this facility.
The Driving factor here is the potential to earn money from posting, upvoting curating etc.
It all depends on what the masses think of it when they come to steemit, once they manage to create an account that is eh hum!!
The crowd is a strange and unpredictable creature, so it is hard to tell what they will do.
I am hopeful though, I believe Steemit has the potential to improve Facebookers' intelligence drastically! :)
Myspace did the same thing. Facebook was not an original idea, the idea of making it exclusive was. Myspace was huge and the users all moved over to Facebook.
Damn dude, you are an inspiration to me. Every single post you're their I love it!
Even though I saw your posts, I somehow feel like you are a bot. Even if you are a human, you are a machine dude!
