For anyone looking to mine or witness using a Windows machine here are binaries for the latest release of Steem v0.15.0. Which is scheduled to be in use today November 8th.
http://www.filedropper.com/steemd_1 or steemd.zip
http://www.filedropper.com/cliwallet or cli_wallet.exe
You should be able to use the same witness_node_data directory with config.ini. Just swap out the exe files. I always recommend making backups though. Just in case.

This is minGW build, not suitable for mining.
Is there a build method you would recommend for creating binaries suitable for mining with? Someone told me they were able to mine with the thread fix on a 0.14.2 mingw build. Maybe they just got lucky.
mingw build hashrate is really slow, unfortunately I'm still unable to compile it with VS2013, stuck on error mentioned here:
Tried multiple times, not able to get it to work... It crashes on "Starting witness node...". Let me know if I can help debug.
