Steemit still fails in several ways for most steemians (Will this ever change? I hope so, yet I remain sceptic)
Steemit somewhat works for some of the steeminans. Who are willing to jump trough weird hoop rules that don't really make sense, but manage to make a cashflow based not on actual votes of the average viewer, but based on whale power.
Steemit works for elite steemians, who don't have the slightest ethical values and act on pure greed.
Now i'm sure there are grey areas where a few clever monkees manage to swim in shark infested seas without getting slaughtered. And really manage to be succesful. Yet those i can count on one hand, and still i don't know if they are whaling in secret, sailing under another flag.
Keep in mind my view is somewhat limited to the small group i hang out with. I may be very wrong, but from what i hear in my group this is the image that emerges to me. A few exceptions. But by just using the platform in a human manner, without jumping trough weird bureaucratic hoops, steemit is not in any way a reliable source of income. Don't even think of getting the flu, or break a finger.

Votes on content that is 7 days old or older, perhaps even 6 days 18 hours or older only cause damage by adding data to the blockchain while not adding a single rshare to the recipient of the vote.
To me it is annoying.
This is why I wrote about the 1 week in my comment to which you replied.
Steemit is garbage since I joined it, but is still my biggest time expenditure, or waste, along Youtube.
Youtube is like TV, but much better, due to much bigger diversity and much more content.
In STEEM you have to reward yourself by using bidbots.
It is risky, and I got downvoted at least 3 times by 3 different people for doing so, but the reward still exceeds the cost by far, and the downvoters did pay with VP, which almost everyone here tries to spare, because it is money and power, especially if you know how to leverage it.
Steemit is a better choice than facebook and Twitter for sure.

If thats the case then something is definitely wrong. This way you can make money on whatever crap you post. So if honest people don't use bitsbots then shitposters just destroy the entire platform.
So that may explain the downvores, yet downvotes then work like censorship, and that would be just as bad as the thing they are trying to fight with downvotes.
And if you then still manage to win then it is just a joke.
How can steemit be 'better' then the other options if people need to reward themselves?

I like steemit but it can easily be turned into some social minder program with ease. I understand china has a social reward program that in part is similar to steemit.

Btw. I think I remember you saying that you use Firefox. Unfortunately the best upgrades for steemit are on Chrome. I'm not a fan of google bot it has some good features including one which tells you if you are talking to a bot. "I appreciate your post, very much" haha. Or you can use the service called @miti that gets rid of spam comments for you.
A good alternative to Chrome is Vivaldi. Based on chrome and uses the same add-ons

All I can say, is that Dan Larimer, is the man! He was involved in the concept of Steemit, and is now trying his hand at EOS, another crypto that will challenge Ethereum in the smart contract field.

Meh. This platform is garbage. People with 60,000 followers and following 120,000 other people? Of course not. This platform is nothing but an ever-expanding system of subscription and "curation" bots, designed to drive up the dollar amounts on each post. It's about as artificial a market as you can get, outside of Amway.
Very interesting. I see a lot of potential in this system proposed by Dtube, but I think it needs to improve a lot to have a more solid system of payments. The steemit formula of payments in 7 days (and after that nothing else is worth its content) is good to some extent, should work cool for daily news and videos. But when we think of more artistic works, such as short films, video clips, etc., we may be giving our art very little, or better, we will be giving to Dtube, which will continue with the content generating more views (even without payment). Perhaps a smaller fraction of the value of each upvote after the seventh day was something interesting to think about.

Btw what moniker have steemit users found to reference themselves? Steemie's doesn't sound too savoury steemite's perhaps. Someone please correct me so I can tell others they no longer need to feel disenfranchised by YTs de-monetising scheme.
